Yes we want our team to win and to have a great year but for me after all of these years that isnt the most imporant thing. For me SU sports is a venue to see and enjoy friends and family. It has become after all of these years a meeting place, something special something that i want to be well to do great you bet but our record is now secondary a means to an end if you will and if the meal is great fantastic that is a bonus but im not here for the meal im here for the company. Time with my Dad, family and friends. Time to remember how it was to split a loaf of warm columbus bread after a cold day at Archbold. Time to get a slice at the Varsity or if i was really lucky to get something at Mannys. For me even though this season was tough it was great. Another year on the Hill another year of hope in the spring and summer and another year of what if. I love Syracuse sports not because of the victories but because of what it brings which is friendship, family, and a bond of something that you have to have in your bones to understand. Even though many of us disagree on so many issues and topics the one thing that we will always have is the bond of what it is to be a syracuse fan. Go Orange!

well said and very true. There was a period a bit back not too far (a place we don't want to go back to anytime soon), a time where the tailgate and times with family/friends became just about the only reason to go. You're right the history for so many of us goes way back and it's so in the blood. It's been enhanced beyond expectations the past several years with FINE MESS and the great friends/acquaintances that's developed from that.

And while I get where you're coming from with all this, and agree with most, for me it's still as much about the record though as it is anything else. Maybe that will mellow more and reduce with age but at this point it's as equally about that as much as all the rest.

The best of both worlds is what we hope for now that we have big time tailgates we now need big time (or hell I'll take small time) success so they go hand in hand. And hopefully one day down the road finally we're good enough before I kick to get Gameday here where we celebrate all of the above. But all that said great post on what it's really all about. As the saying goes "A lot will come in between but we all begin and end with family and friends. " Can't spend enough time around em.

Thats nice and warm, and I somewhat agree with you.

But that is what fans of teams with 3-7 records say.

Wins make it a lot more fun. And without wins, there wouldn't be many memories for so many reasons, I am not even going to begin to list them.

I value and thank you for your philosophy and imagery about the camaraderie of being a fan (but not the stuff about the record).

I will admit that I am struggling with reconciling the new existential kc with the kc who wanted the O staff fired at mid season...

i want to win, although i enjoy spending time with my dad with whom i've been going to the games with for years it is far sweeter when we win. I love going to the games because its very special for me but at the same time i could also be doing that at the golf course or doing something else other than watching a cluster at the dome.
