For those waiting for a switch to be flipped on offense

I don't think it matters who's back next year. We play WV, South Florida, Cincy,Rutgers,USC, BC, and Minny on the road. We won't be the favorite in any of those games. Doug's failure is going to be his inability to recruit. We still haven't cracked the top 50.

54 is pretty damn close. We're still in the process of recruiting too.

We won't be favored in BCS road games? Shocker

The point is we lose 5 starters on O and play a schedule that is waaaay harder. While we may look better next year, and may be more consistant, in all likelihood our record will be the same as this year.

I'm not being flippant. Who are the 5 we lose? Brain freeze

My opinion is that Bailey is plenty big enough and that he has the talent to be a difference maker. On a lot of teams, he'd be a matchup nightmare.

On our team, with a lousy OL opening holes in front of him, he struggles. But that is not an indictment of his talent.

Bailey. He is nothing great but he is still better than what is behind him. RB will be a major concern next year. Gulley is not an every down back. The other two IMO leave a lot to be desired.

Provo. We have bodies in Wales and the two Frosh.

Chew. He was being fazed out before the injury anyway.

Tiller and Hay. While both struggle mightily in pass blocking, both are built for run blocking and are physically mature. We will be replacing them with guys who may have more talent, but will be inexperienced and not yet physically mature. That is an issue for a team that wants to pound the ball.

With the addition of Sales I think or passing game will likely be better. However it is hard to see our running game being better. And if we keep the current O system, our O will still stink.

Chew, Provo, Bailey, Hay, Tiller.
I expect the replacements are Sales, Stevens, Gulley, Alexander & (maybe) Curtis. I also expect you see less reliance on the TE, and a committee at RB.

Sorry -- didn't see that this was already answered.

I would use extreme caution with this, nassib will be back next year, we will lose Provo, bailey and tiller... It's not going to be easy to replace... I understand these guys arent world beaters but they are the best we have.. I think we are falling into the trap we did under robinson. It will get better next year, recruit, few new assistants, etc etc etc. I understand Marrone isn't going anywhere unless he does something himself because gross tells hin changes need to be made, but the body of work on offense in year 3 speaks for itself.. Unless we get a new oc I am not expecting much different next year maybe worse
The problem with te current OC is that Doug is ultimately in control of all the plays being sent in. If he think runningBailey up the middle 5 times in a row is proper the problem starts and ends there and I like Marrone but he is flat out wrong here. How the OC is handling the Provo coverage is an indication he hasn't got a clue. You must not allow a defense to concentrate on one of your most productive players without making that defense pay elsewhere bigtime.

Chew, Provo, Tiller, Hay, Bailey.
Hay is addition by subtraction. Less penaltiesChew is covered with freshmen talent and Hale. Thompson will lessen the Provo loss. Hicky will go in for Tiller.Bailey will be replaced by committee.Gulley is the head of that bunch. Presuming he stays healthy. Mcfarlane will probably be included and Smith might even be gaining favor this year.Who knows about AAM? Never saw him against SF. Doughouse? or Doug-house?

I don't disagree with your statement about Hay, but it is an indictment of the talent we have on hand that nobody could beat him out. I agree that he is subpar, but if there's nobody better to take his place...

Trudo probably gets the first crack at RG. Maybe Alexander fits better inside than outside at tackle, despite the early season reports about his quick feet--we'll see.

Bailey is the only offensive loss that scares me. Provo is very solid--don't get me wrong--but I feel that with Stevens / Wales, and potentially youngsters like Thompson [4-star] and Adazzio, we'll make do at TE. But we have a lot of unproven players at RB--certainly nobody who is on Bailey's level. I hope Gulley can be a starting caliber guy, but that's no guarantee.

So why would we go into games like Friday with a gameplan to wear them down running the ball? (as per Rahme article this morning). Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I get that we're not prepared to be an all out pass to set up the run kind of team, but still, we're certainly not a team that's going to wear an opponent down running the game. So when it inevitably fails we have to turn to a wide open passing game and we're chasing the whole game.

100% agree. I hate the way we have come out the last couple of weeks trying to establish the run. We have basically given away full quarters. Our early goal should be to get Nassib into a rhythm as early as possible
