I am currently helping the OCC Football Club develop their program. Our schedule is mixed this season with regional club games against Clarkson University, George Mason, and our home finale against Ohio State. We will also play JUCO teams like Alfred State (final year before moving up to NCAA D3 probationary status) and newly formed Monroe College. Tough road game against NAVY Prep.
We are on the verge of becoming an official NJCAA Club program which is a step away from varsity status though the school is not exactly giving us much support. Anyone in the community interested in helping out with equipment, donations, or even coaching we would be interested.
We can be reached at info@ogresfootball.com or our website www.ogresfootball.com. For more information see our Post Standard Article from last season http://blog.syracuse.com/sports/2011/10/onondaga_community_college_stu.html.
As an aside it has gone under the radar a bit but the Carrier Dome will be host to a JUCO Bowl game this year the "East Bowl" http://www.njcaa.org/newsArticle.cfm?articleId=16861. Hopefully we can get varsity status in the next few years and take part in a relationship with Syracuse University which could help bring in quality JUCO's to the program as OCC already has an academic agreement with Syracuse University.
