Well, this is a bold hire by going with brown

Do we get Willy Love now?

Does Allen stay?

Does Duce come back?

Is Nunz going to stay on?

This could go really well or horrible

Yes to love .

Yes to Allen.

If it’s possible and there’s a path for it - yes to Duce.

Yes to Nunz.

Spot on with the range of outcomes.

You may be in the minority on this.

Hiring Fran Brown is NOT going to get people excited about SU football. Hoping for the best for the guy, but this isn't a hire that will pump juice into the fanbase. Maybe it does with people here on this website who are the die-hards of the die-hards, but for the rest of Onondaga County it won't.

I am actually shocked this is the hire they are making. Praying for the best and for this to work out. We will see.
Think of it this way.

Dino Babers sucked the life out of our town after 2019. We are beneath the floor right now in hype.

Hopefully Fran does a better job with community, university and alumni outreach.

Land a big name or two in the portal and in HS recruiting.

Open up practices a bit more and funnel some hype to the media.

We can’t do worse producing hype than we were. Dino had us on life support.

All the negative comments are from severely uninformed people.

“He recruits for Georgia, of course he can recruit there”
He has recruited well everywhere he has been. He makes special connections with these kids and pulls them in. He is a young Ed O.

“He has never been a coordinator or HC before”
As if being a coordinator is a prerequisite to being a head coach. It’s not. Several coaches have went from positional coach to Head Coach. It happens. This isn’t some experiment that Syracuse is trying for the first time.

“I don’t like this hire because it isn’t Dan Mullen or Bob Chesney”
Well I am truly sorry your guy didn’t get chosen. But JW is in charge of the hire not any of us. Thank goodness for that.

You know how this will play out. Syracuse will hire Brown and next year BC will fire Hafley and then hire Chesney who will then proceed to curb stomp Syracuse for the next x amount of years. That’s just the way things go for Syracuse.

If he retains OG, Alford,

if he is the guy and retains, OG, Alford, Peña, other WR’s, Villari, Allen, Cinco, LB’s and lines, adds some talent and a stud QB we have a solid base of talent to start with. Is it GA maybe not, but could/ should be top 25
The problem is you also need guys behind every one of these guys. That’s been our problem. We don’t have any.

So if these are our 3 candidates, Candle is third for me so he’s probably the guy we should hire, Chesney is the guy I think we should go with but it’s not very exciting, and Brown is the guy I’m ambulance chasing curious to see what happens.

Neither would chesney, neither would candle. Clearly this wasn’t a play for the casual fan.

Chesney is a great
Coach and I fully expect him to be successful. It would be illlgical for
Him not to be with the success so far.

Chesney is chip Kelly. Let’s hope he goes west and we can complain from afar

Guy is about relationships, communication and people, he nailed the interviews, he will excel in those areas you mentioned

Syracuse’s clock doesnt tick unless we’re a player in New York, Jersey, the DMV and New England.

Fran can do all that, and I’m sure someone on the new staff will emphasize the DMV.

This is a good hire for what we need and we’re going to open the wallet for coordinators. Very excited.

Sounds like it’ll be finalized with Brown today

100% Brown will be a lot more fun from at least now until labor day. Then he will have to prove himself on the field. Huge test but he has a ton of work to do the next 9 months.

I mean I am so use to being horrible when it comes to syracuse football I am happy to roll the dice. If it bombs so be it. I mean we can wax poetic about 5 win seasons, a couple good wins with Dino, Marrone's last 5-6 games in 2012 and 1 great year over the last 22 years.

Sure fair point but the diff being we had dignity

Being a 4 win team w zero dignity and issues would be embarrassing. Let’s hope he can coach is my point and I’ll take a bit rascal w this program. If he can’t and inmates run the asylum I’m out
gotcha. Im not trying to convince anyone on any candidate. I do wonder why you are assuming it will be Shug Khight and deathrow?

At Syracuse, If you want a truly great head coach you need to take a huge risk and you have to skip a step or two, IMO. Gotta find somebody before everybody else does. Chesney and Brown fit this mold, IMO. Neither have everything you would want for a P5 head coach on paper, doesn't mean they can't be great. Plenty of failures with teams that have tried the same.

try to hit a home run, don't choke up with 2 strikes looking for an infield hit. I am good with it.

I also don't think a great coach like Dan Lanning is a great head coach because he was the DC at Georgia for 2 years, I just don't. Sure it's another box checked but great leadership comes from many places. Lanning has also been great at hiring great staff because he is well connected. I get it, Oregon has tremendous advantages but we don't have the same expectations either.
My son said this hire is Kyle Schwarber hire. Big reward big risk. I love this hire compared to Chesney or Candle. Once Mullen was out Cuse needed to take a risk. I know nothing about Fran Brown outside of recruiting. What are his philosophies? As a serious fan this is very exciting. The casuals don’t care who we hire they just want wins. I am looking forward to the coordinators being hired and players coming and going. College football is becoming at 10 month a year sport and that makes me happy. Good luck Coach Brown.

Pretty big difference recruiting against teams in the American Athletic Conference vs the ACC….
Not sure what Cuse fans don't get. It's about recruiting to a level to be competitive. Temple isn't going to get ACC level recruits but he was able to find recruits to be competitive at that level and Brown has done so at every stop hes had. It's logically unsound to say he won't be able to do the same moving forward

We won’t know his philosophies until we see his staff. OC and DC will be the tell here.

FYI.
From Football Scoop:

"Brown especially gained momentum throughout the day Monday, and Syracuse leaned on a five-person committee in the process.
Among those figures: famed Syracuse alum Donovan McNabb, as well as Herman Frazier and Torrey Ball from within Syracuse’s upper-level athletics administration.

Fran Brown is an intriguing and significant candidate who hails from New Jersey.

Brown, who played in college at Western Carolina and also had a brief NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, has coached extensively at Northeast staples Rutgers and Temple prior to joining the title-winning staff of Georgia coach Kirby Smart,

Burnishing his credentials, Brown has been both an associate head coach and a defensive coordinator. His peers for multiple years have told FootballScoop that Brown is among college football's top upcoming coaches"
