If he starts consistently hitting the pull up J at the top of the key this freshman class will have 3 NBA players not 2.

He already knows how to be a great point... he executes passes that no one else on the team even sees. He just needs to work on his handle and his J but man if he develops those then look out! With his length and athleticism he could be Rajon Rondo part 2.

This is so good you should create two threads for it in stereo! :D

Dude has hit one jumper all year. Let's see him hit a few more. Think he's talented and a great ball distributor but this is going a bit too far.

Im guessing youre a glass half empty kinda guy amirite or amirite?

Hmm... last time I checked the word If is a conditional means lets see if he actually does it.

It's like me saying "If Kaleb comes in and plays like he did for the first half against Nova last year he's going to be a lottery pick next season".

It can be conditional all you want, but you can almost say anything has conditions and follow it with pretty much anything and it doesn't hold water.

Is it really glass half empty when a guy has hit one shot all year and the head coach even comments about it in the presser and he's being anointed a NBA player? Is it really half empty or am I recognizing craziness? GoHam is a huge Howard fan and I'm sure he's scratching his head at this one.

Idk about NBA player but this board does love to point out his deficiencies more than any other player not named Cooney.

yeah it is glass half empty, Frank Howard has earned playing time from JAB, that is almost unheard of. The guy get's it, he is listening and understands what coach wants. Don't know about anyone else, but when I saw sherm come on the court the first time, I was like "your kidding". this skinny short guy is gonna lead our team? Well you know the rest of that story.

Where was he anointed an NBA player? I just said if he could hit that jumper from the top of the key consistently and worked on his handle he has the potential to be an NBA player in the mold of radon rondo. If you can't see that the kid has plus vision and passing ability then I don't know what to tell you. He's one of the better passing points we have had in a while... he already makes better post entry passes than MCW, Ennis, Scoop, and Flynn, three of whom were drafted. Before all the negative nancys jump down my throat I'm not saying he is a better player than any of those guys I'm just saying he does that one basic thing very well. I also think he has better vision than all of them but MCW but the others had much better handles and more refined offensive games. From an athletic standpoint Howard is behind MCW and Flynn but probably ahead of Scoop and Ennis... however Scoop and Ennis had much much better handles than Howard.

There is definitely a lot to work on but there are also definitely a lot of tools there... I can't wait to see him develop over the next 3 seasons.

Instead of over-analyzing one jump shot, can we debate whether his form is fundamentally sound? If he has good mechanics, it stands to reason it's just a matter of time before his jumper becomes effective. What concerns me, though, is that he isn't a much better free throw shooter, either. From my limited view, his form seems a bit quirky.

His form is fine and not at all quirky. His release is a bit flat which obviously affects the trajectory. A millisecond earlier with the release and we're looking at 37% from 3. Mark it down,GMac will fix this

To be fair, he's made a 3 this year and also the jumper last game. So we're talking at least two.
This by no means is meant to be negative since I really think Howard will be an important part of our near future but right now he seems to get caught on too many offensive fouls driving to the basket. He could just be anxious to show what he can do or a bit out of control. Certain that will be "fixed" over the off season.

He's a Freshman with limited playing time for most of the season. He has made some very Freshman mistakes handling the ball -- ball stolen from him from behind twice on fast breaks, stupid fouls, low percentage passes at times. But he certainly is the best passer on the team (at times). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his shooting improves.

He had a decent jump shot from what I saw in high school at Paul VI. I highly doubt he is shooting any jumpshot right now without wondering in the back of his mind if Boeheim thinks its a good shot. Just my impression.

Like GMac fixed Cooney's 'fading' issues?
I'm not super-pumped about GMac's 'shot technician' skills. Yet.

Frankie has potential. I think he's miles ahead of where Laz Sims was at the same point in his career. Sims didn't become an offensive player until he was a senior, and we went to the NC with him. I don't think it will take Howard as long. It will be fun to see him playing WITH Battle next season, but then I wonder how often that will happen since it puts Mal back at 3, and I'd rather see Lydon there.

If this was the NIT I'd say go for it, lets try out the 12' J.

Friday, I'd rather have him provide 12 assists, 5 of those being alley oops to monster jams by Rob, G, Tyler, to put away gargonzola by 20 and maintain the 50.5 oponent ppg avg we have going on so far.

That would put him 2% higher than GMac's career average from deep -- sign me up.

Frankie has been a "one and done" all season long. Anytime he has been on the court and he's taken one shot... he's done... for the rest of the game and JB has him doing pine-time. But, that's part of the JB learning curve, Syracuse experience. We have a lot to look forward to with this kid.

That short jumper from 10 ft. during the MTSU was awesome and IF he can work this off season on that shot and can make it on a consistent basis... he will make a significant leap forward in his ability to help the team.
One thing cannot be denied and that's that recently the team has played markedly better when he has been given more minutes over the course of the past several games.

He was recruited for his passing acumen and not his ability to shoot the ball. Had he been anywhere as competent shooting the ball as he was passing the ball he would have been ranked significantly higher than he was by all the recruiting sites and he may not have been as easy a kid to secure a commitment from.

I think one of the factors that warrants a lot of excitement is that his potential for improvement is very high. More often than not a player, through hard work and coaching can improve his shooting whereas court vision and the ability to pass and drop dimes in the manner that he does is a God given innate gift / ability and cannot really be coached or learned. You either have it or you don't and when they were giving out the court vision/ dime dropping modules Frankie must have been at the front of the line and was given a double heaping helping. I think the kid is going to be a real phenomenon before he leaves the hill.

You said what I was trying to say a whole lot better than I did. Thank you.

One nit to pick... I thought the J was from just below the top of the three point circle, well above the FT line so it was more like a 17ft jumper?

Frankie be like "You can't check me!" I love this kid. His shot looks fine in this HS video. He drifts side to side a bit on release, but otherwise his form looks fine. JB is beating that floater out of him. Too bad because it looks good against HS competition. Bright future for Mr Howard, very bright. If you think you are going to make it young man, shoot it!

Correct. He dribbled in like one move past the 3-pt line, then pulled up and hit it.
LONG 2. Well past the FT line area.
