Fran's Game 1 Press Conference | Tennessee

He's a university employee, so tuition is free, no?

free but you pay the taxes on it -- but I think we talked about it with boeheim's kids that it was like 20-25k instead of the full hit

could be wrong on the numbers but he is paying 'something'

He knows what it is to struggle and how much it would mean to another kid to get an athletic scholarship.
LIfe changing stuff!
Seriously, it is often those who know what it means to struggle, who open up their pocketbooks to help someone else out.
As I think Fran would say, God put him in the position to pay his sons tuition, while others just cant.

I had a few tough times financially growing up so I often will try to help out those who just need a helping hand. There but for the grace of God.

I remember the discussion, but weren't JB's kids on scholarship? We definitely didn't go over the scholarship limit in their time at SU.

Yup. Well said. He and E Rob both grew up with nothing (to put it kindly). They’ve already gotten life changing money. They both pay it forward. Good people.

I did not hear anything salty at all in this presser. I have heard plenty of Syracuse coaches get salty for various reasons over many years. Boeheim being the #1 saltiest instigator. This presser doesn't even make the cut. The whole presser was very tame actually.

All he was saying about Tennessee and motivation is that Tennessee is a good team, but the best motivators need to come from within. That's a direct/indirect message to his whole team, and a life lesson for everyone else

Fran’s wife is an anesthesiologist, I believe. We know Fran is making a boatload of money. I think they’ll be fine paying 20-25k a year lol. That’s about one of Fran’s wife’s biweekly paychecks paying for her son’s yearly tuition. And about half of one of Fran’s biweekly paychecks lol

Thought she was a nurse but either way, yes, they can afford it!

Nurse anesthetist, not anesthesiologist which is an MD.

Yeah i don’t think Boeheim paid haha i just remember the discussions around taxes or reduced cost

Maybe Frans trying to keep everything close to his vest but in all his press conferences this year I don’t think he’s had that same swagger and I will win everything confidence. Maybe he’s not trying to give Tennessee motivation or he knows we’re in for a humbling year

I think he was bit by the Stanford game and knows there aren't many layups in life.

Yeah, that would make sense if it's required by ESPN.

I do know that university is looking under every stone for revenue streams. Not sure if this has been posted yet, but, as an example, they will extend beer/alcohol sales to the end of the 3rd quarter - but only at limited stands.

This is a no brainer for Syracuse and something I have been urging them to do for years. First off the worries about additional intoxication are pretty minuscule. One additional qtr isn't gonna make much difference when people have had the entire pre-game and probably close to 2 hours between the first half and half time to drink.

For Syracuse this will alleviate everyone slamming the beer stands at half causing massive lines and product to run dry in the self serve stands. It's also going to add a nice chunk of change that they previously were missing out on

There will only be a limited number of concessions that will continue to serve after half time - one on each side, and in the Miron Court area.

My understanding is that number may grow during the season. The issue is not so much concern with intoxication. It's more about the people that try to leave the Dome with their beers, which creates a liability issue for the university.
