Fran's Game 10 Press Conference | Miami

"It's just a mixture. There are a lot of guys that are able to go in, so a lot of guys are getting experience."Coach Brown on all the changes and adjustments that have been made to SU's offensive line.

Wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Myles White is no longer with Syracuse. QBs coach Nunzio Campanile and TEs coach Michael Johnson Sr. will swap places. Former Broyles Award winner Josh Gattis will replace White.

When asked if these staff changes make Fran Brown concerned if QB Steve Angeli will transfer out, Syracuse's head coach was blunt. "Steve will be back. Steve will be the quarterback next year."

"I think that Steve did a really good job as a leader when he was playing, and he's learning how to do it without being in the game." Coach Brown on why injured QB Steve Angeli is still traveling with the team.

Plan is for Luke Carney to redshirt which means he has one game left, quarterback is open to competition this week including at least Joe Filardi, Rickie Collins. Would think Carney also.

"We're gonna go compete in practice." Coach Brown on who will start at quarterback for SU against Miami.

"We just need to gel and put some points on the board." Coach Brown on what needs to improve offensively for Syracuse.

One of the Kerr's will be a RB next season.

"Gattis has his own style of things he likes to do. It's going to be a better fit for who we are." Coach Brown on Coach Josh Gattis replacing Myles White as SU's receivers coach.

Luke has 1 more game left. The plan was always to redshirt him.

So we're saving Carney's redshirt based on some initial decision this year... but next year Angeli is our starter without question so Carney would... what? Just do mop up duty and be fine with it?

I appreciate the transparency from Fran, truly. But this is kind of odd. Unless Carney is definitely hitting the portal and we're doing him a solid.

A bit strange all around. QB play is struggling, so Nunzio is going to TEs. Johnson is going to QBs. White is out at WRs, despite QB1 not being able to get the ball to the WRs. Gattis now to WRs. Carney will redshirt so only has 1 more game available. Sounds like Collins won’t play anymore. Who’s the QB now?

Everything about this kid’s situation is weird.

So, when was it decided that Carney is going to redshirt? They used him for one play vs. Colgate, 2 series and part of a third vs. Pitt, and one series vs. NC? Seems like a strange way to fully use the 4 games you have with a player when you have a lack of QBs. Unless you don't want to. [Footnote - the one play vs. Colgate was because Rickie had to go out when his helmet came off.]

Also if you are on a game count for Carney why bring him in last game to just run the ball for a series? That literally makes zero sense.

It's the Archie Manning trajectory.

My guess? When Filardi was chosen to start last game that essentially ended Carney having any reason to believe he was considered part of the program's future.

Well, if you dont want him to transfer and hes demanding that he gets a redshirt year...you pretty much know hes going to transfer.

If you put him out there and he puts some nice throws on tape etc you may lose him to a peer school.

Remember the portal has changed everything.

Not saying that is this case with this, but I think you can see a logical argument there.

You can agree or disagree with the changes Fran is making, but it seems like he is learning a lot in the face of adversity. I think those changes start with staff placement, more importance based on developing players vs staffing based on recruiting. You don't need the elite recruiter at this position when you have Fran Brown in charge. You need a guy to develop the talent.

Eeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhjjjhhhhhhhhhh logical argument is really generous.

If I am not mistaken, it was pretty clear that Carney and his father for that matter, have decided they want to take a redshirt year this year.

If that does not tell you that he is hitting the portal, idk what does.
Agree but why then doesn't he just announce and leave the team? Why is Fran keeping him around?

Was White the one who verbally lit into Collins on national TV? I think there was commentary as to the “bad look” that it gave to SU.
