Fran's Game 5 Press Conference | Duke

I agree with you but the way he asked it sounded like he wasn't paying attention the anything else the entire time. Ask the question that says "Coach, I know you talked about Angelli helping Rickie when he comes back, does that also include travelling with the team for away games and on the sideline during games?" Then he doesn't sound like a dick.
I wasn’t clear the first time Fran mentioned it. That’s why I was glad Javon brought it up. But it’s no big deal.

It’s the question Javon wanted to know. I was also curious myself. Fran’s first explanation was a bit of word salad.

On a list 500 things we want to know, Angeli traveling with the team is #500. But I guess to each their own. I'm glad the triple A reporter was able to have a question answered that like 3 people in America wanted to know.

He’s trying to cook up another article “where does Steve Angeli go from here?” Like he did with Collins… sigh.

I miss Emily
Yup, she had some growing pains, but she turned into a good reporter. Her times on Axe’s podcast were farrrrr better than when he has Javon on now.

What’s most telling is that practically every media member Axe has on to talk about our next opponent is miles better than anyone who’s been in CNY is a long time, aside from Carlson. The overall quality of football reporting is lousy.

I liked Emily and didn't get the hate some had. I think Javon knows football, my issue is he lets his Ravens fandom and Temple experience bleed into too many questions. Ask about our guys, don't ask Fran if he uses Devin Grant like the Ravens use Kyle Hamilton, or really compare Syracuse to Temple in anything ever.
Anyone who brings up Temple in football needs another job, far from college football.
How can you take a school seriously that was kicked out of the Big East conference.?

Fran is a great recruiter and appears to be a good coach, although he’s still learning. He knows that. But he sometimes has trouble elaborating his thoughts and is too worried about sending the wrong message to opponents, so he overly praises them. He know he needs to be careful as a young coach. That’s fine. I think the SU media is a bit frustrated with how Fran responds to questions, usually close to the vest and with little openness. Fran will grow into his role and learn how to work with the media.
The media keeps asking the same tired questions about the fake injury stuff, which honestly feels pointless. I wanted to hear actual updates on guys like Eman, Boobie, and others. On top of that, no one asked about the defensive line, the way the defense has been playing at a much higher level, or how the scheming has clearly improved. The reporters need to step it up and start asking better, more relevant questions in these press conferences.

SU just lost its starting QB. Questions about him are important regarding his status moving forward. No one will be interested in another week. And Javon wasn’t the first to ask about Angeli’s role with the team. He was simply trying to confirm Angeli’s role, and to be perfectly honest, it was a legit question because Fran wasn’t perfectly clear.
I think that’s a good point. The repeated questions about fines and the fake injury stuff were just annoying — wasting both questions and time. These reporters stink sometimes, man.

Did anyone ask if the FR WR who broke his leg was still on pace to perhaps come back this week?
That’s exactly what I wanted to hear about, but these reporters only ever care about the starters. They don’t bother asking about the young guys who are pushing for playing time and could make a difference.

Yeah, I don’t think Javon was clear on that. I certainly wasn’t. Fran, to be honest, isn’t the best communicator. He often isn’t clear with his intentions and thoughts.
I believe Fran knows exactly what he is saying and has mastered all the necessary tools in his tool box to deflect, bob and weave, and provide the non-answer answer. He just does it in a nicer way than the prior head coach who would do it with a condescending smirk.

Man do we have some horrible reporters. I cringed that entire press conference. Those are the questions you’re going to ask during your only media availability with the head coach?

How about asking some questions on the scheme we ran against Clemson, if the offensive scheme will change at all with Rickie in the line, what we’re doing better from a protection standpoint on special teams, maybe ask about the 49 yard FG we made away, in Death Valley. That type of FG would have been a pipe dream last year.

I’m typically a fan of Samantha, but that question came off as accusatory and wasn’t a good look. You play to win the game.

Need to do better Syracuse or Fran isn’t going to give you more access or, better yet, want to stick around this area.
