He had the most carries and the lowest YPC...he's not a saviorMahoney. Would like to see 22 get more carries rest of the year he has a knack for finding holes and fights for yardage
It's a tough environment to really judge anyone in. But what I saw from Wilson was a guy who had trouble getting in signals from the sideline, is only able to lock onto one receiver, and doesn't have the natural sense what to do if that receiver is covered. Dungey is great at avoiding a loss. Wilson is not. His panic move is whatever type of intentional grounding he can think of at the time. Throwing a dart at his OL's legs was really bad. He got away with another one.
I'd go with Mahoney. Not saying it makes a difference, but I just think he gives you a better chance to move the ball.
Hopefully all moot and Dungey is fine. But the way he seems to take hits (versus, say, true freshman Jalen Hurts who ran and ran and ran and ran last night into big fast LSU defenders), the odds are that we're going to see more of the backup.
One other disappointing aspect of yesterday's game is that if Babers wanted to avoid the shutout, why not throw some jump balls on those 3rd and longs? See if Ishmael or ET can come down with it as they've shown the ability to do. Or maybe draw PI. Worst case it's an INT, which is basically a punt.
I have never seen a QB take as many head shots as Dungey.
I am always on edge when the guy runs the ball.
I think Dungey froze when he saw the hit coming, maybe because of how many bad hits he's taken. If not for him freezing, I think he might have been able to avoid the hit at least enough to reduce the severity. He froze before being hit a bunch of times against Wake.Based on the look in his eyes when you watched that hit in slow motion, I think he's on edge too. But instinct once a play starts has him running if things break down.
I don't know what it is. We watched McNabb run the option for 4 years, on a concrete home surface, and never miss a start.
Dungey's neck/head just seems to snap more than any QB I've ever seen.

Mahoney was only a 46% passer last year, though he did have 7 TDs/ 2 INTs. Maybe he's a more accurate passer in Dino's system. In any case my recollection is that he seems more comfortable with the pace of the offense than Wilson.Last year Mahoney kept quite a few games close. The problem is that we were running a different O last year. Mahoney is DEFINITELY not a passer.

One advantage of not playing Mahoney yesterday, NC State will have very little video on him running Dino's offense. Hopefully Dungey has a fast recovery.
When we're old we are going to be ashamed of loving this sport. Watching people smash their brains was more fun when I was ignorantI have never seen a QB take as many head shots as Dungey.

I understand the concern, but, Cam Newton's taken more in 3 weeks than Dungey's taken in 2 years. Everybody has become hyper-sensitive to head shots since TV coverage has gotten so much better.
This has been happening since football was invented. Protection, safety and teaching is the safest it has ever been. A QB is going to get hit in the head from time to time, and just because their helmet gets hit doesn't always mean they got a concussion.
I have zero doubt that ED's injury the other day was not concussion related. If it was, it was as minor as it gets and probably more of a precaution than an actual injury.
McNabb never got hurt.
Even Nunes, who took some shots, never got hurt.
FWIW. remember 2014 Wake?
They thought Wofford MIGHT have a concussion. He went back to the sideline.
(50 second mark)
All useless speculation at this point.
I said this somewhere else, last time Dungey had a concussion they would not let him back out of the locker room. I doubt that would have changed.
