SU Checking Out Canadian Talent
PLAYERS GET TOUCH OF ORANGE
Young football players in Ottawa will get the best of both worlds Sunday at Ashbury College.
For the first time, coaches from an NCAA Division 1 school, Syracuse, will work alongside coaches from the Elite Football Academy (including Pat Woodcock, Donnie Ruiz, Josh Sacobie, Darren Joseph, Ken Evraire and Steve Glenn) to give 75 kids ages 14-18 a first-class experience.
“We’re ecstatic to be doing this,” said one of the camp directors, Rob Hamm. “(The Syracuse coaches) make no bones about it. They’re coming here as Elite Football Academy guests.
“This doesn’t mean all these kids (at the camp) will go to Syracuse. But they have connections. In some cases, maybe they direct them somewhere else.
“We just want to promote football. We’re not building up hopes and dreams. But you never know what could happen if you go to the camp.”
The camp, which cut off registration last week, will feature specific chats on such things as the recruiting process, nutrition and strength and conditioning.
And, in the end, Ottawa’s football scene will be the better for it.

The phenoms we know about. But forget them. They were overrated, that's all, and we cannot cry about water finding its own level, at their having to go on to pumping gas or selling mutual funds. After all, they had their day in the sun, even if it was only a hazy day of spring; that is a freebie, one more day in the limelight than the rest of us will get. No, the ones to weep for are those who honestly had it but were denied a lifetime of fame by some sad, unlikely fate. Tony Lema died one way, Harry Agganis and Ernie Davis another. Who knows how good Connie Hawkins might have been? Herb Score could have rewritten all the record books, page after page. But for injuries Pete Reiser and Lew Hoad might have made us forget Cobb and Tilden.

4. Safety Steve Gregory: The free safety played out of position in San Diego because Eric Weddle was simply a better player. No harm there. Gregory is supposed to be good, but let’s be honest about something: It can be easy for a player to fly under the radar in San Diego. So, how much do we really know about Gregory right now? The Patriots gave him starting money, so that’s a sign of good faith on their behalf. If Gregory can fill into that role next to Patrick Chung, it should keep the Patriots from shuffling up their secondary pieces. Otherwise, there could be a lot of experimentation leading up to September. Because of that, Gregory’s performance is critical to the Patriots’ defensive stability
Comment from below: 4.)If Gregory can tackle in stead of always going for the big hit and missing guys, (like has been the case the last few years), and if he is fundamentally sound in the angles he takes, I think he can be a HUGE addition to the secondary

September 8 vs. Syracuse at the Meadowlands: The ‘Cuse gave the Trojans fits for stetches of the first half last year, plus they return quarterback Ryan Nassib and their top two receivers. Despite not having tight-end Nick Provo to kill the Trojans again, given that this is USC’s first east coast trip in a while, it’s safe to throw in some bonus points. Syracuse is decent and a game at the Meadowlands is worth a little extra: 2.5 points
