Rochester defensive end still has designs on playing for Syracuse ...

Orange to Kick Off 2012 Season on ESPN2

Player most relevant to the Ravens: Ryan Nassib, Syracuse: like last year, the only way the Ravens will take a QB is if they see a developmental player they could flip for a higher pick later on. Nassib is a guy that jumps out to me. his stock is currently somewhere around the third round but he has big upside and is coming off a season where he completed 62% of his passes. the Ravens could be interested in him, but more than likely they wouldnt take him or any other QB unless they were at least one full round below their talent value.

Brinkley continues to shine in OTAs

June 07, 2012 5:55 p.m. - by Dan McLellan

RB Curtis Brinkleyappears to be the leading candidate to replace backup RB Mike Tolbert (Panthers). Brinkley has received a tremendous amount of reps through the first two weeks of OTAs and has looked good both rushing the ball and on receptions out of the backfield. “I am getting reps right now,” Brinkley said. “My confidence is there. I am just looking forward to the opportunity.”

Around The Big East

Only two freshmen rushed for 1,000 yards in 2011, the fewest first-year players to do so since 2000. And both Giovani Bernard of North Carolina (1,253 yards) and Lyle McCombs of Connecticut (1,151) were redshirts. One other thing: McCombs, all of 5-foot-8, 166 pounds, got no other FBS scholarship offers in February 2010. Score one for former Huskies coach Randy Edsall for seeing something in McCombs, and one for current Huskies coach Paul Pasqualoni for knowing how to use him.

Love that Boonah is performing so well in OTA's... would be great if he wins the backup position because Matthews is sure to get injured/yanked at some point this year, based off past experience.. Boonah blowing up in the time he's allotted would be a really big boost for SU.. Let's hope Carter can win out in Indy as well.

Biggest Potential Riser: Justin Pugh, LT, Syracuse: I think Syracuse might be in for a big year. I don’t mean national championship big or anything like that, i just think they will draw enough media attention that a few of their better players will get noticed. Pugh is one of their best guys and he has done an excelent job blind side blocking for the Orange over the past two years. he has good size and strength and if he cleans up his footwork he could rise from his current 4th round projection up to an early second round grade

5. It’s hard to get a good feel for many players until they put pads on, but Madieu Williams has looked fine. Each OTA we’ve seen, he’s broken up a play or two. Of course, today it was a pass to Antwon Bailey at the goal-line. Williams has a six-inch height advantage over him. But it’s really hard to gauge a safety until live action. Need to see their run fits and how they react in coverage in a live setting.

Northwestern at Syracuse, Sept. 1, noon (ESPN2) -- An important opener for both teams and their bowl hopes. The teams split a home-and-home in 2008-09 with Syracuse winning 37-34 at home in 2009.

Fantasy

Of course I don't mean to imply that the bottom third of the & draft was just a big pile of gems. There were dozens of late duds, too, from Delone Carter (122) to Lance Kendricks (168). My point is simply that elite talent is available with those final selections; you can win a league with early-rounders or late-rounders.
