The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Fredericks was not rated by any of the major recruiting services as of Thursday night, and 247Sports listed Temple and Stony Brook as his other scholarship offers.

Fredericks helped lead Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, N.Y., to a Nassau County championship last season. He is the second New York running back to commit to Syracuse this month, joining Long Island's Tyrone Perkins.

Film Breakdown of SU Verbal Tyrone Perkins (PS; Mink)

Syracuse's first commitment in 2015 continues a trend that was prevalent in Scott Shafer's first full recruiting class last year.

Like many of the incoming freshmen, Friends Academy running back Tyrone Perkins is a team captain and active in his community. The school, located in Locust Valley, N.Y., is a Quaker school big on service. The football team puts together gift baskets, helps out at a local men's shelter and raises funds through flag football games.

The Syracuse football program's mission statement, which reads in part "quietly serving the community," struck a chord with Perkins, and when he was on campus for his unofficial visit, he met with the women involved in food service and a received a hug from one, a powerful gesture that reminded him of home, where the yearbook dedication went to food service people....

OL Chandler Jones (Georgia) Will Announce College Selection on Twitter Tonight at 7 PM (PS; Mink)

Chandler Jones, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive guard from Powder Springs, Ga., is set to make a verbal commitment to either Syracuse or Louisville on Friday night.

Jones, whose namesake is that of former Syracuse standout Chandler Jones, has no relation to the New England Patriots defensive end. He will announce his decision on Twitter...

Long Snap Specialist Nathan Hinds Explains Why He Ditched Maryland to Attend Syracuse (PS; Mink)

Nathan Hines was a freshman on the junior varsity team, playing football for the first time in his life a year after returning from a second stint living in England with his family.

In order to make the traveling squad, Hines needed to be among the best 35 players on a roster of 50, and he made it his priority to earn a spot on that bus. At a practice before the season opener, a coach told the team one of those spots would have to go to a long snapper because "we're going to have to punt or we're going to need field goals."

"I was like, welp, this is my ticket," said Hines, who was a backup tight end and defensive end...

ACC, ESPN Discuss Potential ACC Network That Would Mirror SEC Network (PS; Carlson)

A legal brief filed by the University of Maryland on Thursday mentioned imminent discussions between the ACC and ESPN about the creation of an ACC network.

An ACC-produced market analysis included in the brief noted that talks were expected occur within 60 to 90 days. The market analysis does not include a date so it's unclear if the discussions have already occurred, have yet to occur or are ongoing.

The report says the potential ACC Network would mirror ESPN's agreement with the SEC Network. That framework includes 1,000 televised sporting events per year, a variety of studio shows and 24-7 coverage.

SEC schools do not yet know how much revenue their agreement with ESPN will add annually because it is reliant on the rates ESPN negotiates with cable providers and which areas want to provide viewers to the SEC network.

ACC market analysis reveals possible ACC Network plans with ESPN

April 24, 2014 6:21 pm ET

Dodd: ACC to play influential role in playoff era | Maryland files $157M suit vs. ACC
A competitive market analysis for the ACC was turned over as part of a court filing by Maryland in the ongoing legal dispute regarding the school's departure for the Big Ten.

The document, obtained by the Washington Post, may just be a point of reference for the competing lawsuits over money owed by Maryland to the ACC. But the presentation also details the ACC's view of itself in the college landscape and potential areas of growth, including a conference network similar to ESPN's SEC Network.

"If it is determined that an ACC Network can be a success," the analysis states. "ESPN has indicated it will do a deal on the same terms and conditions as it has with the SEC on the SEC Network."

The date of the analysis is unknown, but the statistics (mostly from 2012 reports), athletic records and other facts suggest it was compiled before the 2013 football season. Additionally, the presentation makes a point to show that the ACC has not fallen behind the other four power conferences in football.

"Media reports would lead one to believe the ACC has limited competitive abilities in football," the document states.

Florida State's national title run and Clemson's recent success -- which includes an Orange Bowl victory over Ohio State -- have rapidly changed the way ACC football is discussed in the national media. The ACC may have been concerned about its football image before the 2013 season, but the on-field results of the last year have evened the playing field across the five power conferences.

The document may be dated, but it's a small glimpse at the information that these conferences use to measure themselves against the competition. Dennis Dodd wrote last week that the ACC is considering a network, and this is the kind of demographic-based information school presidents like to see before endorsing those initiatives.
