On keeping Syracuse basketball assistant coach and 'head-coach-in-waiting' Mike Hopkins at Syracuse.
Hopkins' name has been linked to several college openings in recent years, including USC and Boston College.
"I love him, as you can imagine. He has been so great for this program. Jim (Boeheim) and I have had many conversations about it, so it starts with Coach Boeheim and that relationship.
"I don’t try to fool myself. My influence has been from an administrative level. I always say to Mike, "Would you rather be the King of Belgium of the Prince of England? No disrespect to Belgium (laughs). But England had the whole world at one point.

Waters Series Ranking Last 26 SU Hoops Teams
Lawrence Moten, Big East Rookie of the Year
#19 1991-92 Team Limped into Post-Season Then Won Big East Tournament (PS; Waters)
NO. 19: 1991-92 TEAM
Overall record: 22-10
Big East record (finish): 10-8 (tie-5th in Big East)
Post-season: Lost to UMass in second round of NCAA tournament
Best player: Lawrence Moten
This wasn't the slam-dunk choice that one might think it was. Moten might be SU's all-time leading scorer, but in 1991-92 he was just a freshman. Dave Johnson was a senior and SU's leading scorer that year. Johnson averaged 19.8 points per game to Moten's 18.2. However, Moten made 49 percent of his shots compared to 41 percent for Johnson. Moten also had more assists and fewer turnovers. Moten even had 34 blocks to just nine for Johnson.
GMac Slays Hoyas
#20 2005-06 Team Had a Losing Big East Record, Then GMac Took Over (PS; Waters)
NO. 20: 2005-06 TEAM
Overall record: 23-12
Big East record (finish): 7-9 (9th in Big East)
Post-season: Lost to Texas A&M in first round of NCAA tournament
Best player: Gerry McNamara
Gerry McNamara reacts after his pass to Eric Devendorf resulted in a go-ahead basket late in Syracuse's win over Georgetown in the 2006 Big East Tournament semifinals. Syracuse's Gerry McNamara celebrates Eric Devendorf basket with seconds to go in their game against Georgetown in the semi finals of the Big East Tournament. 2006 2006Dennis Nett | dnett@syracuse.com
Over-rated or not (and we'll get into that later), Gerry McNamara was clearly Syracuse's best player in 2005-06. Actually, that was part of Syracuse's problem in 2006. McNamara averaged 16.0 points per game, but his 3-point shooting percentage dipped to a career-low 33.4 ...
