Dion is best scorer...and Triche is...well read for yourself since a quote from JB:

JB: “Scoop’s starting because he’s our best point guard. Dion is our best scoring guard. Brandon can be more of a point guard next year.”

Now I am somewhat confused...if Scoop is best point guard, Dion is best scoring guard...then why is Brandon starting...or more importantly, what does it mean when JB says "Brandon can be more of a point guard next year"?????? What does that make MCW...???

I am a 'Cuse fan overall and a BT fan too...we know this...but can someone explain the logic of what I am missing here...does JB expect Waiters back next year as the 2-guard...so Brandon moves to PG...or is BT playing a combination of PG and 2-G next year if Waiters isnt here so when MCW is PG BT is 2-G and when Cooney is 2-G BT is PG?????? Help!

? Why does it matter? We are undefeated, #1 in the country, against the top RPI and SOS and people are worried about WHY someone is starting over someone else. If it doesn't bother the players, it should not concern us. I wish the fans would !!!

i'd expect next year we'll see BT start at the point with dion at the #2. backed up by MCW and cooney respectively.
very solid backcourt w/ good depth, handle and explosiveness.

I don't think it's realistic to expect that Dion will be back next year.

maybe so but i'll go with a little contrarian theory here. the farther we go in the tourney the more likely his return.
a lot of pieces return next year. so final four good chance. early exit again... buh-bye.

Agreed. He is really just starting to show how dominant he can be. In about another 5-6 games Dion will be involved in all the BE POY talk and he will be hyped like crazy by ESPN which has already started.

If you bothered to read further you would have found the answer:

"A certain number of minutes starting doesn’t matter. Dion likes to watch the game first. The only bad thing would be if you came off the bench and didn’t play a lot.”

I'd love Dion to be back but I am working under the asumption taht Dion and Fab go to the NBA and I'd bet both are among the top 16 picks.

Actually, I think it's the exact opposite. Dion is not a starter. He won't get out of the second round unless he gets amazing press from leading the team through the NCAA Tournament. To support this, I bring up John Wallace and Jonny Flynn. Wallace went out high because of his NCAA performance. Flynn wasn't even considering putting his name in until after the 6 OT game.

Also, I don't think Fab goes, no matter how well he does. He knows he needs to develop for one more year. He'll be odds-on favorite to be a lottery pick if he stays one more year and as I stated before the beginning of this season, he will be a pre-Season First Team Big East player in 2012-13.

This is wishfull thinking, if the NBA draft was this weekend Dion would go around 20th overall.

Fab stays, dion goes. Fab still needs alot of work. The media hype is starting big time for dion, and its only gonna get worse. Ill be shocked if hes back.

I doubt that JB is trying to answer all your questions about next year, or trying to characterize MCW. JB has done a masterful job in rotating his 3 veteran guards -- BT has a combo guard role this year, depending on who he is paired with at any point.

For next year, Cooney is a shooting guard; MCW will likely be a point guard; and BT is still a combo guard -- with the mix to be determined. Depends on whether Dion is back, how MCW develops and performs at the point and as a shooter . . . JB can't know that at this point, and neither can any of us.

You're probably right, but maybe we could hire Billy Donovan as a consultant...

My guess is JB thinks Dion will go. That makes Brandon the senior with experience and so he starts at PG with Cooney at the 2 and MCW off the bench. When Cooney sits, MCW points and Brandon goes to the 2.-VBOF

IMO

Fab is going to be a abslute monster if he ever finds a post game. If he ever ever finds a transition post up game he could be a NBA All Star.

The idea of MCW playing at the two makes sense to me. Triche passes better in a slowed down halfcourt game. MCW at SG can get it done with speed.

Plus We lose KJO on that side of the floor a true distributer. Something else that makes our team more underated. Although I am also in opinion James is developing a decent passing game not sure if we can expect three assists off the dribble per game using it. Someone with the tempo step of MCW will be a nice addition to that side of the floor. Especially with Rak and Dajuans post up game at PF on the right block.

Dion is gone. From the interview:

Another said he expected Melo to be a bust after last year- was JB surprised by his progress. “No. I know what he could do. But last year he was so out of shape he couldn’t move into position to make plays. Rony needed four years plus a year in the NBA to hit his peak. Fab will peak in about three years. Dion will not get a lot better."

With that said, why would Dion stay one more year? It makes absolutely no sense for him to come back unless he simply loves the college game. If JB is saying this in public, I'd imagine he's being prep'ed for the NBA right now.

As much as I would love for Dion to come back next year and make the team 'his' team, I agree with this. Enjoy Dion while you can.

whether he starts or what, I can't see MCW spending much time on the bench after this year - just too much talent

Re: Wallace: He went at about the same spot he was projected to go as a Jr. He cost himself money by not going (one year of investing his millions.)

I would be shocked if Cooney started over MCW next year (assuming Dion leaves). I wouldn't take Boeheim's comments as gospel as far as what he envisions for Triche next year, not to mention that MCW is/will be plenty capable of playing some 2. He'll have a year of playing experience under his belt, has the higher ceiling and would have to be considered higher in the pecking order than Cooney, I mean one of them is seeing the court this season and one is red-shirting.

the bigger issue is that who is the 4th guard if Dion leaves.

Chances are, they wouldn't play much barring injury. That's why I say go after a JUCO that may not be really highly rated, but possesses the physical and mental capabilities to play the zone and perhaps add some range on offense. He'd only be taking up a scholarship for two years and could offer a quick fix.

With SJ and DW gone, BT and MCW will be the starting guards next year, no way TC starts over MCW.

It doesn't matter who starts. What matters is who can finish and get the job done that night. Would you rather be RAK, who starts and plays 5 minutes, or be Dion, who doesn't start but plays 25?

Right now Dion is superb in his 6th man role and there is no reason to change that. If Bad Scoop or Bad Brandon show up that night, they'll be out before the Under 16 timeout anyway. Whether or not Dion should start is really a meaningless argument.
