Four games in a row, that's not easy on my aching back, but I made it through, with, of course, the best coming last. First off, I should say that there was plenty of Orange in the house right from the start and our numbers grew exponentially as the day went on. Many LGO cheers rocked the house. And, Tomcat may have been pleased at the tuba representation (we had two) but Oregon and then Cal each brought four big ones and lit the place up.

I can't say I was impressed with our cheerleaders, not their appearance mind you, but their routines seemed straight out of the 50s, especially when compared with the Oregon and UNLV cheer hordes, who brought updated dance routines, and a shimmy shimmy shake shake to the proceedings, dispensing for the most part with the pyramid stuff in favor of the hip swivels, leggy showy maneuvers to please the crowd. Also, their gymnastic routines were springy, bouncy and pirouettey where by comparison we looked like we were still in hibernation for the winter.

As for the Montana game, it was over in the player introductions. Those poor Montana boys looked shell-shocked coming out of the locker room and were convinced at the handshakes that they had no chance. And you know what, they were right. They hadn't seen anything like us before and had no idea what to do and it showed. I think our walk-ons would have beaten their starters. Right out of the opening tip, RAK set the tone, jumping through the building on a couple of occasions, and, after JB's first yank of Southerland, Grant came in and got basically every rebound. Game on, game over.

Cal will be a challenge, if only because they're going to believe they can do it and Montgomery is a very good coach. Crabbe is very, very good, but he's no Otto Porter, thank goodness, but he will get his 20 in all likelihood. Their guards are small and slow but do not panic under pressure. Their big guys are good but not great. They beat UNLV mostly because those guys had no idea what to do with the zone, they shot way too many untimely threes and missed a boatload of free-throws, and most of all, UNLV played really, really stupid. Had it been on a neutral court, UNLV would have rolled them up if only for playing maybe a bit less stupid.

We have seen better than anything Cal has and they will have trouble with our length and athletes, especially seeing over the top of the zone. Still, Southey will have to play way better than he did yesterday and MCW will again have to take less than 5 shots for us to win. In other words, if we play smart, we'll win but if we play into their hands like UNLV did, we're going home. The crowd will be a factor, at least 80-20 for Cal, and it will be noisy for sure.

As for the other teams in San Jose, Oregon is really good, very athletic. They are under-seeded by at least four and maybe 5 spots IMO. OK St. couldn't touch their noses with their eyes closed all game long. As for St. Louis, they're Butler all over again. Not athletic, but seasoned, smart and tough.

Thanks for the report. Are you saying that Oklahoma State was drunk?

Great recaps all around. Please keep 'em coming!

It's killing me to have been in San Jose just five days ago--but at least I get to see the games here in Austin today and Sunday--and then it's off to Dallas (Arlington, really) next weekend.

GO ORANGE

Thanks for the good write up.

Seeing how Cal must travel 15 minutes from their campus, will this be considered a home game for us?

It's 9 AM on the west coast and Georgetown still sucks.
Thanks for your updates. They're appreciated. Kudos for turning the 80-20 crowd into a home game.

Will this be our first year with two neutral court games in the metro area of California teams? All while getting hammered for playing neutral court games 300 miles from campus?
