The more i study this class the more i think that it is going to go down as one of our best in the last 8 years. For this year based on need there are five true Frosh not including the Jucos, Myles Davis, and Flash who i believe are going to contribute. At DE I think that Hilliard is going to end up being a stud. He is already 6-6 245 comes from a very competative HS and League and looks the part on film. Manley is the higher rated player but most of our DE's are shorter and i think Hilliards wing span will garner a long look this fall. I hope that our current guys and the Juco step up so they can both RS but i would'nt be shocked to see one of them playing significant minutes by mid season.

TE is our weakest position. At this point we dont have any playmakers at a position that Doug loves to utilize. Both Parris and Thompson have the size and speed to contribute and i would'nt be surprised to see one of them starting by the end of the year. Long term they should be our best tandom at TE in recent memory. Provo was good but these kids are coming in bigger than Provo was as a 5th year senior and i bet they are just about as fast. Can't wait to see them in a few years. The other dark horse is Morris. The kid didnt come all the way to CNY from the Peach state to sit. He is on film the best true every down back we have recruited since Mr Ohio. If Smith falters and AAM doesnt get his butt in shape look for MR Morris to see some action. I would love to see us get back to a back that can carry the load, one that gets stronger in the fourth quarter like Delone did. If not for DC we would never have made the Pinstripe bowl as that kid carried our O on his back. I have high hopes that Morris can do the same. In addition to these true frosh i fully expect Flash, M Davis, Zeus, and our All Juco DE to see significant action. Now if only our Oline can hold its own...

Based on his film, I have a mancrush on Morris.

couldn't agree more. and the thing i really like about him is that he brings game-breaking speed to the tailback position -- something even a power back like DC3 didn't bring -- and Morris does it at 6'1 nearly 200lbs. scary.

i know this is a lofty comparison, and he still has to show up and prove himself, but GM compares very favorably to a young Arian Foster coming out of HS; size, speed, and running style are all very similar. I think Morris has all the ingredients needed to be the next great back at SU.

I really like Morris and hope he gets a shot to contribute. I have to disagree about Hilliard though. He was not overly productive in his senior year. Hilliard plays too high and needs to get stronger. Eventually he will be a good player but he might be a guy who needs two or three years to develop. Hilliard has a great frame and should be able to add weight.

He looks like he has a nice ability to change speed in the open field.

I like the comments.

UGA Fan - "This guy looks like a very solid running back with as many tools as any back I’ve seen, his ability to break away from tacklers is impressive. Syracuse seems to have a knack for recruiting really good backs and looks like they have another one."

UGA Fan - "This kid will be running the ball up and down the field on tech. Then again every offense steamrolls tech."

GT Fan - "With that list of schools Coach Fishfry should have been all over this kid like a gorilla on a bamboo shoot."

I hope to see Flash at QB, RB and WR. Heck, put him on ST as well.

I don't think he plays over Jerome and PTG, but I can't wait to see how he competes this fall.

I agree with the idea that it is a very strong class but I do not expect to see a lot of freshmen on the two deep coming out of fall practice. Mainly because I think the school will try to redshirt the majority of them, and because they duplicate a lot of the skills other players have (if they are head and shoulders above other players they will play, if they are equal I think they will try to redshirt the player to get bigger/faster/smarter). That being said here are my thoughts:

QB: 1.) Nassib 2.) Hunt/Loeb 3.) Kinder/Broyld-As been stated earlier Broyld is going to have packages and play a slash type roll but if Nassib were to get hurt I think you will see other players step up before him.

RB: 1.) Smith 2.) PTG 3.) Moore/Morris/Rene/McFarlane-McFarlane seems destined to redshirt, Rene seems destined for special teams which leaves Smith, PTG, Moore and Morris. To me this is like two years ago with Carter/Bailey/Collier. Smith is going to grind (18-22 touches), PTG is going to get touches all over the field (10-15 touches) which leaves Moore and Morris fighting for the scraps barring injury. To me Morris will play on special teams, where as I don't think Morris will. I think it stands to logic that if Smith gets hurt Moore see's more action and if PTG gets hurt Morris will get more action. As the season where's on I could see Morris getting more carries if he is as good as the video shows.

FB: 1.) Cleveland 2.) Davis 3.) Addazio?-This position wasn't used last year as much as in the past and I have a feeling it will be used a little less this year (more two TE/WR and three WR/one TE sets). Davis will play on special teams and I could see Addazio as an H/Back type player.

WR: 1.) Sales 2.) Lemon 3.) West 4.) Every-non Freshman 5.) Freshman-So it is pretty clear that the first three are set and beyond that no one really knows. I think Kobena is a wild card because of his speed, but his hands need to be developed. The rest either haven't shown much (Flemming) or haven't played much (Hale/Foster) to have any idea what they are going to do. The two (Cornelius and Lewis or three if you believe Ford is going to be a WR) freshman seem destined to redshirt.

TE: 1.) Wales 2.) Stevens 3.) Everybody else-This is the first real position I think you can have some freshman getting significant PT. First because we run a lot of two TE sets so I could easily see Parris/Thompson backing up Stevens or Wales (with all due respect to Addazio and Beaulieu) but also because Wales, Addazio and Beaulieu have all been injured recently and its not hard to fathom a freshman tight end being pushed into action because of injuries.

T: 1.) Pugh/Hickey 2.) Robinson/Curtis 3.) Alexander/Phillips 4.) Barrett-While the right side starter is not set in stone I don't see any freshman playing OT this year

G: 1.) Chibane/Foy 2.) Alexander/Trudo 3.) Knapp/Emerich/Palmer-A freshman could end up on the two deep here very easily but I think outside of injuries they will try to redshirt all of these guys Emerich/Palmer need to add weight and Palmer seems like the lowest rated guy of the bunch.

C: 1.) Macky 2.) Trudo 3.) not a freshman-I am not sure who the third stringer is (I think Wolf-Gould is there now) so I don't think a freshman will be near playing time here

DT: 1.) Jones/Bromley 2.) Crume/Boatman 3.) Sloane/Coleman-This is a pretty deep position and I would be surprised to see Crume start and play running downs with Jones or Bromley playing a pass rusher on longer downs. I don't think Coleman plays this year outside of injury.

DE: 1.) Googins/Robinson 2.) Sharpe/Pierce-Brewster 3.) Simmons/Hilliard 4.) Manley/Barnwell-I think the most likely freshman to play is Hilliard but he has to play great to make the 2-deep. I also think it hinges on if Mark Garrick can get his knee cleared before fall practice. If that's the case I think there is a real shot that all three (assuming Barnwell qualifies) are redshirted and unleashed after Googins/Sharpe graduate.

LB: 1.) Lynch/Spruill/Davis 2.) Vaughn/Diabate/Vigile 3.) Washington/Coker/Amene-Like others it seems like Washington is destined to redshirt and compete in the coming years. That being said he could also be moved to DE and become a pass rusher.

CB: 1.) Lyn/Reddish 2.) Anderson/George 3.) Morgan/Desir-Before I did this I felt like Morgan had a shot to play and still believe that because if he is as good as advertised then we could use the help and also because a couple of injuries could push him up the depth chart really fast. That being said I think they are cross training a lot of players and wouldn't be surprised to see Wilkes or Eskeridge playing a little nickel/dime corner. I think Desir is going to push for PT at both CB and FS positions so I have him here to show that.

FS: 1.) Wilkes 2.) Eskeridge 3.) Desir 4.) Whigham-I wouldn't be surprised if Eskeridge or Desir for that matter started because they are better athletes but the experience edge will give Wilkes the starting position to open. Whigham may play on special teams but he seem destined for a redshirt.

SS: 1.) Thomas 2.) Mungwa-I am curious to see if Whigham cross trains here or if one of the CB's does because Shamarko is a lock to miss at least a few games and someone will need to be ready for that occurrence.

ST: Will be manned by the regulars with the exception of Norton who will handle kickoffs (the one true PT that will be on top of a depth chart).

Good summary.
Generally, you are saying that none of the OL/DL recruits will make the two deep -- only a few true frosh (TE, RB, DB) have a chance to play other than specials, but the jucos will play. About right for September, but usually a few more frosh will push into the mix as the season progresses.

As for the details, it is difficult to project the OL (due to injuries), but Alexander was the starter at OT in Rochester.

You might have missed the memo that Broyld is playing some RB/WB (also working at QB), as the staff is searching for a playmaker. With what we have at FB (and including Burke), it shouldn't be difficult for our OC to find ways to get Broyld on the field. Thompson should be contributing by October -- similar observation: has the size & mobility to be an early contributor as the pass-catching TE.

Good post.

I think it makes sense that JUCOs will play immediately.

I think it makes sense that the TEs will get a chance to play.

In the past we saw talented frosh RBs player early - Ali Culpepper, Damien Rhodes, Dee Brown, Diamond Ferri and I think McIntosh. I could see George Morris sharing some time with Smith and Moore.

I think with the losses at DE that Manley and Hilliard could play.

And, just because I really like him, I hope Wayne Morgan plays - but I suspect that we have enough talent in the secondary to redshirt him.

Of course Norton will KO - lets hope he is as good as advertised - hard to believe but our poor KO ability last year probably cost us one or two games.

Looking forward to Saturday!
