If you've watched every Syracuse/Pitt game since the early 2000s, this is how they go. They pass the ball exceptionally well against our zone creating high percentage shots either 8-10 feet in front of the basket or guys slashing baseline for an easy layup, and are ferocious on the offensive glass. Sometimes we are able to overcome it with overwhelming talent or late-game Ennis heroics, but usually we don't.

It has nothing to do with the "clutch-and-grab" myth invented by this board. That's just us making ourselves feel better that there's a coach out there with no NCAA Tourney success whatsoever that completely has the number of our Hall of Fame coach.

As long as the Pitt system stays the same and our system stays the same...the result will be the same. There's a reason Pitt wins 70% of these games even though the players change.

i did catch the part where the announcers said dixon plays a set rotation. his guys know they're going in no matter the score or situation.really the exact opposite of JB's strategy. his bench is basically a penalty box. miss and sit.

Unfortunately, you're pretty accurate in your assessment. If Pitt and SU played an NBA type best of 7 series year in and year out since Dixon has been there Pitt would win every series 4-0 or 4-1.

Further aggravating is listening to the Virginia homer say on a few occasions how Dixon said to him that this would be Pitt's best performance defensively (game) all season...of course, this is after watching Wake score a ton of points against that same defense just 3 days ago.:bang:

Keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result GMAC for next Coach

also caught the late late shot of gerry and hop sitting together on the bench. hate to say it but looked very much like mike was picking up a few bad habits from his mentor.

how dare you be rational on the internet?

Pitt owns us. We own ND. ND owns Pitt.

Some teams just have other teams' number. It's just unfortunate this year because our spot on the bubble

I don't know, it's good to rationalize and dismiss it as a simple as that kind of thing, but each and every year, the "teams" are different as the players annually exhuast their eligibility. As difficult as it may be to admit, since I despise Dixon, it really appears he simply has JB's number and to him, I believe, there's not a coach he'd rather coach against than JB.

That is probably why Dixon has had so much more success than JB...

Yep. Even with garbage talent, they beat us basically at a 100% clip. They can count on a minimum of 2 wins in conference every single year. It is beyond sickening.

Did Pitt hit awkward shots today though? I remember that one banked-in three, but other than that just a ton of medium range jumpers in the middle of the zone and layups/dunks.

They seem to hit more 14- 17 foot jumpers against us than anyone. It wasn't an awkward shot back in the 80s.

Whoever that dude was who started his shot behind his head, guys like that...

Dixon always seems to have a good player to stick in the middle of the zone to chew us up. Artis, Sam young, Patterson.

Pitt is always a good passing team which helps them against our zone. They are not good off the dribble or shooting off screens. They really struggle against good man to man teams. Their skill level hurts them against man to man teams. This Pitt team has been an awful defensive team this year, but today held us to 52. SU will beat no one when four of their starters play horrible, which they did today.

It's tough to lose two in a row against Pitino and Dixon. Both coaches play a physical game and have played us enough to have a game plan that works. We have weaknesses that become matchup issues with some teams but in general are doing ok, considering the trauma the program has experienced this year. I'm hoping we'll finish strong, play well in the tournament, and be a contender next year. We could be better but we're blessed to have a great group of freshmen. LGO!!

I'm feeling depressed about the loss so I'll throw this song in here about the routine of SU losing to Pitt

Eh, clutch and grab isn't a myth.

We...Need...A...Real....Big...Man....Coach.....

We are too freaking soft inside except for Coleman who was off two years and has bad knees. He will need knee replacements at a very young age.

What scares me is who Hopkins hires as his replacement when he takes over. We need to open the coffers and offer top dollar to get a real big man coach who can also teach free throw shooting also.

Hopkins a time back said they don't waste their time teaching the bigs on how to box out in a zone defense in an interview. It really shows against teams who just want it more and are physical.
