Unlike the Clemson game, where hope ran wild in our first ACC game at home - we're eyes wide open about what we're up against. That's a good thing. Low expectations can be fun. Here's how I'm looking at it:

The Miracle
There's this small glimmer of hope deep down where the reminders of Nebraska and Louisville (Grob days) reside. Anything can happen - but this is the last I'll speak about it even during the game. I will not utter a single word about actually winning here or to my family on game day, even though I'll be secretly holding out hope. I'd advise all to do the same. Candle light vigil, don't talk in the library, and don't fart in church - type quiet.

The Jay Bromley Watch
This unheralded kid from NY gets picked up after a high school all star game and is now a complete monster. He'll face a really good offensive line this week. I'm looking for at least 3 hits on Winston and a sack.

The Beat The Spread Win
Can we cover? 38 points is a lot. Our defense has been very good the past two weeks. I'm not thinking we score very many points, but can we hold them?

The Delaware Express
I love this kid. Jerome is a great ambassador for our program. That being said, I'm looking for him to run over some FSU defenders, bring some NE football to FL. I think victory is a 100+ or 75+ and a couple of FSU safeties on their backs asking for the trainers.

The Cool Kid
I think he'll be amped for a game in FL. He's recruiting against these programs, and will want to win. How does he do it? Does he get exotic? Does he pound Jerome? I'll be interested to see how he tries to attack them. Recruits will be watching.

The Bruised Loss
I know this about Shafer: he will make sure FSU "feels" this game on Sunday morning. I want big, nasty hits and audible "oohs" from both fan bases in the stands. I don't think the D will stop trying to hit like we hit, even if we're down 50. I don't think they give up. I don't want to see FSU (or any team) get injuries to their best players - and Winston needs to play for this team to bring home the BCS championship - so no catastrophic injuries to any players would be awesome. But I want to hear quotes from their players about how hard we hit.

The Make ESPN Shut their Pie Holes Win (or The Suck It Cohen Win)
I'm so sick of hearing about how BC is back and they're a team to watch and Addazio is a genius. It's all based on winning close games vs bad opponents and losing pretty to good teams. They may be the new Rutgers. That said - we need to snag some of these headlines by keeping it close and into the 2nd half, followed by a Diomand Ferri like soul crushing win against them at the dome to get to 7 wins. Extra bonus if they don't make a bowl game.

Any other "wins" this week?

My hopes for the team: Acquit yourselves well, grow as a team, get ready to win the next two.

That being said, miracles do happen...

Focus on individual plays/matchups we win even if the bigger picture is getting ugly. FSU had 49 points vs Wake on only 250 yards of offense. We don't need to give them short fields or turnovers.

Look for players that are making themselves oney in the future. NFL folks will be watching... mainly the other team... but look for some of our guys to raise their profile or land themselves on some draft boards. Bromley, Spruill, Whigam, Reddish, Eskridge, Smith, Hickey, Morgan, etc.

Hope we come out healthy. Jimbo said he won't run up scores, and he's done that to date. Starters come out very early compared to their peers which is respectable. No need for Shaf to lob bombs in this one and no need to worry about dirty plays (Ga Tech) ending players seasons. FSU will (try) and beat us straight up.

Hope the game is more interesting then anyone expects. Similar to the USC game last year, hope we're at least in position to make it interesting in the 2nd half.

I was thinking about adding a "Players and coaches stay classy win" - no Shafer outbursts getting caught on camera. Passion is good - but I'd hate to see him get colored by a Dabo type situation again.

I had the same reaction to that Dabo play call which is VERY out of character for me as well. I won't hold that against Shaf as I'd be a hypocrite for it. Given the same circumstances, I would expect Jimbo to make the smart, non contreversial play and take the 3.

Agreed - I thought it was overblown and that Dabo was kind of cocky about they whole thing. Perception from the outside was annoying though. Shafer has been much better since.

Agree completely with your entire post. I am really excited for the Florida State game, the combination of national exposure with the complete lack of expectation with "what ifs, anything can happen", make for this 4 day work week for me, to drag out and take forever to get to 3:30 Saturday on ABC. Like a kid at Christmas, can't wait for it to get here, not really sure what I am going to get!!! Go Orange.

Still be in the game at halftime and get some hits on Winston.

On offense I dont think we dare throw too much in the middle of the field. Run, run, run with some screens and deep throws.

bromley will move the kid qb to the bench by halftime from fear-

the offense will move the ball at will against fl st d

su by 14 -bank it

Where's your bank? They must be giving money away!

For those holding out hope for a win - tamp down expectations. And for the love of all things holy do not complain after this loss unless we're within striking distance late.

Block, tackle, play hard and hit hard to the whistle. Catch the balls thrown to you and hold onto the ball. Don't commit stupid penalties and throw the ball to your own team. Control what you can control.

Did we have any FSU visitors this week on the site? They've been here all year, funny that I don't remember any posting this week.

Stay within 21 points. That is what I am hoping for. Looks respectable. We are not a 38 point underdog. And please leave in one piece. Because the next two games are really the most important ones.

Agree with this. No stupid penalties would be nice to see. Play the game hard but with class.
