Shafer very short when asked whether he considered letting Pitt score. "That's teaching (kids) how to quit."

Shafer was asked about letting teams score a couple years ago and was adamantly against it. Clearly hasn't changed his stance.

Scott Shafer on ACC coaches teleconference says he didn't consider letting Pittsburgh score at end of game on Saturday. "Not at all."

Shafer: "I just don't think throwing in the towel is a way to teach young people how to live their life."

Shafer stresses gang tackling as a way to stop Florida State running back Dalvin Cook.

Shafer - "looking to play against a very talented & well coached team. We're looking forward to getting on the airplane & going after them."

Shafer- "offensively I've seen a lot of improvement across the board. Young QB continues to grow & we've progressed very well offensively."

Shafer - "It's a great opportunity for our kids to go do what they've wanted to do since they were little. and play in a great environment."

Shafer on Steve Ishmael's success - "He works at it as hard as anyone I've been around and has incredible body control in the air."

Shafer said Syracuse has forced 15 fumbles and recovered just six this year. Lots of opportunities that could have gone SU's way.

Shafer said the defense needs to improve its anticipation. Understanding opponent tendencies, formations, etc. is the key.

Shafer said the thought of QB AJ Long playing football again is concerning. Shafer saw the severity of Long's concussion symptoms firsthand.

Shafer made it clear that it's Long's decision and the medical side isn't his field of expertise. Clearly concerned for AJ's health, though.
