FSU

By not even trying to play a tough schedule the team already looks weak, and the Big East schedule is ridiculously weak; recruits know that. So the only thing that will look good is by showing some balls and actually taking on a tough OOC.

Works for Rutgers.

Maybe your definition of "looking good" is finishing 3-9. But 3-9 won't get any recruits.

We did give up a home game to play USC on a neutral field. Call it an "su home game" all you want, its a neutral field game. I don't see SU running and hiding from anyone. But reality is SU is a bad (yes bad) football program right now and to play a bunch of Top 5 teams is silly. No good comes from it. Losing by 40 week after week on national TV isn't good! I'm sorry it's just not! It just further reinforces the image of SU being a god awful football program. Sometimes you need to take 2 steps backwards before taking a step forward. There is NOTHING wrong for a bottom tier Div 1A football program like SU scheduling cupcakes.
USC is not exactly what they used to be...sure they have Matt Barkley coming back, but they aren't a top tier program anymore. Northwestern and Minnesota are bottom feeders in the B1G, which doesn't say much about our OOC as of right now. Now move into the in conference schedule...without WVU it sucks, it is a half a step above the MAC and well behind MWC and WAC. Recruits notice this, and even if SU goes 5-1 in conference play no one will care simply because it is a conference of cupcake BCS teams everyone else beats up on. If we schedule FSU now recruits turn their heads and get a glimpse of SU on national tv. An away loss to a team that is years ahead in talent and coaching looks a lot better to me than a home loss to a team like Rutgers or UConn. Not to mention the fact that we recruit in Florida every year, so a game down there will get us more exposure. If we put 14+ points on the board and hold it to a 28 point game, which is what FSU tends to do in the OOC then I would see it as a success. Maybe they even have a bad game and it's close the whole way, now how does that make the program look? I'd rather try and fail than not try at all and be guaranteed failure.

When is the last time any of Rutgers "big time recruits" have panned out? Many of their 4 and 5 star recruits did not contribute too much , and 90% of them were from NJ. NY has one or two 4 or 5 stars a year. If you look at all their top recruits they are from NJ and didn't contribute or play that much at the next level. Sanu was a 3 star, Rice was a 3 star corner. They have had two good seasons and they were both when the conference was down in talent

What?! USC is going to be preseason top 3 next year and one of the favorites for the NC. Northwestern is not a bottomfeeder.

You schedule wins if you can.

Exactly!

So you advocate replacing the 2 conference games we lost, WU and TCU with a couple of cream puffs?

I've got no problem with it. Navy has an opening. Traditional opponent, not a cream puff.

Other than that, if the choice is between FSU, Oklahoma and teams like that vs a cream puff, I'm filling up on pastry.

What are the options at this point? Especially if it's going to be a Dome game?

I think 2012 is going to have to be a dud season for the Dome. And much of that will be the USC arrangement, which few like, but at this point what can you do...

SU is going to have to play up 2013 and beyond assuming we can start in the ACC by then. We'll have either FSU or Clemson in the Dome (have to assume they'll alternate), some two of BC, NC State, Maryland, Wake. One of VT, Miami, UVA, UNC, GT, or gulp, Duke.

Season ticket sales most likely decrease in 2012 due to the home schedule and last year's finish. But a good 2012 can help lead into 2013. Just need to make sure we're in our new league by then.

fsu now has a free date.. they could also move some other game and opp around to play someone else freeing up the opp for SU to play.

Both ESPN and Athlon have USC ranked second in their preseason rankings. Athlon even stated "If Matt Barkley returns, USC could be the No. 1 team in 2012."

Syracuse already has a game scheduled in Florida in 2012.

FSU will be a divisional opponent in 2013 so a one-time away game in 2012 really does not make much sense for a team that is not planning to make a National Championship game in 2012. We need to schedule for a bowl game and @FSU does not put us in the best position to get that done. I understand not wanting to play cream puffs but we need to do what we need to do to get to a bowl and move into the ACC on a high note. We take this game as a last resort.
