FSUMBBHCSH

Future Syracuse university mens BB Head coach Shaheen Holloway

In other words, whoever just upset somebody in the NCAAT.

How would we pronounce it? FSUMBBHHC = Fah-Soom-Betch?

I love St Peter's style of play. They're not winning because they're just getting hot from 3. They're breaking down defenses off the dribble, hitting mid range shots, passing well, calling smart plays to get guys good shots, and playing smart aggressive defense. They seem well coached. I'll be interested to see where SH ends up and how he does.

Jason Hart was the better player in the Big East from 97-00, and would be the better coach for SU from 2022-???
I liked Holloway more offensively, but Hart was such an amazing defender.

Amazing what a team that's coached by someone who gives a crap about offense looks like.

Holloway has done a masterful job this tournament, but it doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to have success at a Power 5 program.

Much of the same conversation was had about Shaka Smart 10 years ago and he’s been unable to replicate his success since.

St Pete’s had some doozy losses this year. Amazing what winning a couple games in the tournament can do for your career

If you take a closer look- they were competitive with most everyone they played with zero blowout losses. Also the bad losses were close games. That seems to be a big part of their identity- they are very good in executing late in close games. I wouldn't so much look at who they lost to as much as those games were all close or moderately close.

St. John’s and Providence did have their way with them early. They got a lot better.

I skimmed over the St John's game good catch. Didn't see that one. Providence was a 3 pt game still with 10 mins to go.

Imagine what he could do with the Dome and ACC level funding and support?

If I take a closer look they lost to Siena twice, stony brook, st Francis Brooklyn, canisius, Iona twice, rider ..,etc

Oh, I've gotten used to doozy losses now.

I think we’ve acknowledged where we’re currently at warrants a change. But Holloway is a Johnny come lately. He beat Kentucky with a team that he also lost to St Francis Brooklyn with. We should look at coaches with more sustained success against high level teams night in and night out.

St Pete’s isn’t the first Cinderella to make the great 8 won’t be the last.

Yup.

And if Holloway goes anywhere, it’ll be to Seton Hall.

So there’s really no point dwelling on this.

They’ve having a great run!

But that only shows they got hot for a while at the right time, not necessarily that the coach is awesome, or that it is repeatable.

Just because I didn't list their losses doesn't mean I didn't point that out. Not sure why you added Iona to your list either.

Let me simplify it. They have won a lot of close games and they got blown out once.

They are competitive and execute well down the stretch. They stayed competitive and executed well down the stretch in the tourney. Stop looking at the names and look at the X's and O's. This is basketball. They have been able to stick to their identity and execute in the tournament no matter the opponent.

Name dropping in this day and age in college hoops means nothing. Also Holloway has experience as a player at this level. He knows what it takes and found a way to get through to his kids to stay confident, focused and believe in their ability to get it done.

Massive accomplishment but it's not like you can't connect the dots here.

Sustaining success over the long term - even with some peaks and valleys - is far more difficult that having a few great years.
