Future game against Kansas in Miami?

Home game!

I still remember that 08/09 game vs. Kansas in Kansas City. 95% of the fans were KU, they had their students and band there. Yet none of the talking heads called it a defacto home game for them, when those same talking heads go out of their way to call any neutral game where SU has at least a 51/49 edge in fans a home game.

That was a great game. I think we were down by 13 at one point. Winning in that environment in OT and coming off two lackluster seasons was such a shot in the arm.

I was at that game. 95% might actually be an understatement. Might as well have gone another 45 minutes and played in Lawrence and gotten credit for the road game, except tickets would have been much harder to get in Allen Fieldhouse.

How strange. Why would Kansas and Syracuse play in Miami? I wonder if there is a new pre-season basketball tournament starting there in 2017?

On the topic of pre-season basketball tournaments, Syracuse still hasn't committed to playing in one during the 2016-17 season. There were all sorts of options to play in one in NYC, including the pre-season NIT, which we are finally eligible to play in again (we last played in that tournament in 2012). But it looks like we opted to skip them all. I am kind of mystified...we are apparently not very interested in playing in the Garden, or even Brooklyn anymore.

I wonder why? If I lived in the greater NYC metro area, I would not be a happy camper.

Maybe we are tired of it being considered a home game.

Orange Bowl Classic. They always play a doubleheader in Miami around the Orange Bowl. I bet they gave KU and SU a nice check to play iy.

There are actually two major hoops tournaments in the Miami area (at least there were this year)

HoopBall Miami Invitational (Presented by Basketball Hall of Fame)
Played at Miami Heat's Arena downtown the day after Thanksgiving. This is a doubleheader. I actually fell into some tickets this year for the event, which featured Kentucky vs. USF and Ohio State vs. Memphis.

Orange Bowl Classic
Played in Sunrise, FL at the Florida Panthers arena (which is quite nice). More north and inland. Not too far from Dolphin Stadium (10 miles?). This doubleheader is played about a week prior to Christmas and often times has the Seminoles and Gators hosting games, but not playing one another (this year was UF vs. Oklahoma State and FSU vs. Florida Atlantic).

My educated guess is that SU vs. KU would be part of the HoopBall Miami Invitational because of the Florida-Florida State dynamic I mentioned above.

Sounds right to me.

If it is the HoopBall Invitation, I would think this means SU can't play in the Preseason NIT or the Barclays Center Classic. They are played just after Thanksgiving too.

They can't play in the 2K tournament because they were it too recently (2014).

So it looks like the Legends Classic, which is played in Brooklyn the week before Thanksgiving, or the Gotham Classic, which has a single game in MSG a little before Christmas, might be our only options for playing in a preseason tournament in NYC in 2017.

I'm thinking we might actually get shut out of any early season tournament, it looks like a good number already have fields set.

Preseason NIT has lost some luster having been moved out of MSG, and already has FSU scheduled from the ACC.

Barclays Center classic took some investigation (I never knew this one even existed) but has BC scheduled from the ACC for 2016.

CBS Sports has a post with a the 2016 preseason tournament fields from back in November. Not sure how many more there are to sneak into. We might have to rely on bringing back the Carrier Classic to get our exempt tournament in this year.

One other thing to note is that these are NOT tournaments. They are doubleheaders, so SU would play one game only.
In other words, UK whipped up on USF and left town this year. There was no game against the Ohio State-Memphis winner the next day or later in the weekend.

The HoopHall one is a tournament. The other games are played on the team's home court. UT-Arlington beat both Memphis and Ohio State on the road in this tournament.

It is like the Gotham Classic from 2013. We played 3 games at home and then Temple at MSG.

That is what it would likely be for us and Kansas. Each would play 3 teams at home and then meet up for 1 game in Miami.

I agree, it's weird that we aren't playing in any current tourneys coming up, at least that we know of. Those tourneys with 3-4 games that only "count" as 1 against the schedule are huge. But we are playing in NYC consistently still.

2016: South Carolina at Barclay's
2017 and 2018: ACC Tourney at Barclay's

I'd imagine we'll either re-up the St. John's series for 2017 or play someone else at MSG. Maybe the NIT Season Tip-off in 2017? Maybe a single game against a random team (a la South Carolina or Temple), though hopefully someone higher profile than that.

We're not happy.
All we got this year is St. John's...one of the 2 or 3 worst Syracuse performances in the Boeheim era.
(SJU by the way has now lost 15 in a row since that game).

The sizeable number of New Jersey fans have it the worst.
Most do not get the Long Island licensed station that carries the ACC Network.
So there are many games they can't even watch.
Particularly odd since since the Orange recruit so strongly in NJ.

I think the game against South Carolina would be a more likely candidate for one of those 3 at home, 1 neutral exempt events for next year. Kansas is already committed to the CBE Classic next year, and I haven't seen USC in one yet.

Kansas is in 2017-2018 according to the article in OP.

I would think with the ACC tourney at the Barclay's, we would want to play a couple of games there to help get comfortable. This is our chance to have a real advantage over the southern ACC schools in the ACC tournament. We should take advantage and expose the team (and the SU fans) to that venue a number of times beforehand.

So it is. Oops.

Well, I still think South Carolina is going to be attached to our exempt tournament for 16-17 then :). There aren't a whole lot of other options.
