what Cuse should do:

1 game yearly vs: PSU, Ohio State, Michigan, or an SEC team (South Carolina, Georgia)
1 game yearly vs: Cincy, Louisville, Toledo, Akron, South Florida
1 game yearly vs: UB, Army, Navy, Kent State, Eastern Michigan
1 game yearly vs: Colgate, UMass, Old Dominion

thoughts?

Nah give me Howard, Tulane, Arkansas, Kent St and Army so we can start 5-0 :)

Toledo? Akron? Army? Navy? UB? One or two of those a year? Yuck.

Its called two gimmies, one toss up, and one 'name game'

This hopefully gets ya to 3-1 OOC before second season starts

Everyone does this now-a-days except CUSE

No. No. No. And No.

First game we should be playing a weak 1AA. I would make it Colgate every year. UMass is 1A now as is ODU. Too difficult for our easy game. I would even consider GTown as well.

Second game should be a weak non BCS team. UMass would fit here. Since they play at Gillette they likely wouldn't have a home field advantage and we would bring a good number fo fans. ODU there is no reason to play. We gain nothing. UB see UMass. Army and Navy would be good teams to play, especially if we can get them to play our road games in Yankee/MetLife Stadium and M&T/Fedex. I would add Tulane and Rice to this list. Temple too. Kent and Akron would be fine. EMU adds nothing. In addition I would want a 2 for 1 from these schools or just don't play them.

Third game there is nothing to gain by playing Cincy, Louisville, Toledo, or USF. We should never play those schools. I would like to see us schedule Northwestern, Vandy, UCLA, or Stanford here. I would also consider TCU or Baylor.

Fourth game should be PSU, Michigan, or ND (when in our rotation). I think this should be our big OOC game. Those are the big names for NE football.

Hey king that is not the order i would playy them

That is the levels I assigned them at

King i picked teams in our recruiting region

No reason to play ucla, stanford, tulane

Colgate - every year
Army or Navy - every year
Weak to average BCS team - every year
Average to great BCS team - every year

I wouldn't count on seeing Navy too much.

8-9 game BE schedule, plus ND, AF and Army.

Schedule RU and UConn for guaranteed wins.

EMU, Toledo, Cincy, Louisville are not in our region. All four are too far West. Kent and Akron are close enough to Pittsburgh that you can leverage that to have interest from kids in Eastern Ohio. A lot easier to sell a kid 3 games not far from his home while at SU. IMO there is no reason to recruit West of I-77. Especially if you play teams that will beat you. ODU and USF are in our region but they are redundant when you have UVA, VT, Miami, and FSU in your conference. Tulane is an easy game where we will have a decent sized crowd. We also have a relationship with the school. UCLA makes sense for keeping in touch with West Coast alumni. Stanford is a like minded school. Plus playing either maybe you get a Cali kid or two.

Thats it, you think like a rutgers fan your following the wrong program. You deserve each other.

Something to keep in mind...the ACC and SEC are rumored to be talking about a scheduling agreement where each ACC team would play an SEC team once a year. If this happens, SU would only have to fill 3 OOC slots a year. Given our scheduling woes post Edson and the attractiveness/rarity of playing SEC teams, if this happens, I think it would be great for Syracuse. Let's hope it happens.

Yep I hope we get a John L Smith led Arkansas team!

Can we use non SEC refs? Those boys know where their bread is buttered.

One PAC/Big 12/10/SEC...2 non and that excludes any big east team and an FCS.

Actually having slept on it I think we need 3 cupcakes going forward OOC. When we have an average squad, we will lose to both FSU and Clemson. We will split NC St/Wake. We will split BC/MD. Pitt/GA Tech/UVA/UNC/Duke we likely split depending on if home or away. So those years we go 1-1. However the years we have Miami or VT we could very well go 0-2. So when we are just an average squad (which will be more years than not) I think our ACC record will only be 3-5. Thus we need to go 3-1 OOC to make a Bowl. Playing a 1AA and a crap non BCS team will get us to 5-5. Playing a name OOC team like ND (in our rotation), PSU, etc will more often than not be a L. So now we are 5-6. As a fan I would like to see SU play a mediocre BCS team as the last OOC game, like NW or UCLA. However if that is a roadie then SU falls to 5-7. So the program is better off playing another non BCS team to ensure 6-6 when we are mediocre.

So my ideal schedule OOC would be:

Colgate every year
2 for 1 rotating every 3 years between Akron and Kent
2 for 1 rotating every 3 years between Army and Temple
Rotate every year between ND, PSU, and Michigan

For PSU and Michigan do a 1-2-1 agreement. For Army do a 1-1-1 agreement. That will give 4 games to MetLife over a 12 year period.

If your point is to lower the OOC competition, I agree. I go a step further and drop the first line to NW, Minny, Purdue, California, etc. It should have been done about 7 years ago. Why pretend you are a good team if you clearly aren't?

id like to play colgate every year, or hell even cornell. I would like to play Army every single year because id love that away game every other year plus they are a NY team obviously.

IIRC, the Ivies won't (or are somehow barred) from playing 1-A schools, so Cornell is out. I think the Patriot League is generally the same, except for special circumstances (like when we played 'Gate a couple years ago). But if Colgate can/would agree to it, we should play them every season. Or apply leverage with the basketball series to convince them.

I may be in the minority, but I think a game in California every 2-3 years would help gain some exposure in the West for recruiting purposes. Playing a UCLA, Cal, or Stanford would be interesting to explore. I think USC is ok, but I think playing another program would provide an opportunity to win a game out there.

I hope this happens as well - because otherwise, to think that an SEC team (outside of maybe Vandy) is going to sign a home & home deal and come up to a game in the dome on their own is pure fantasy.

Is there any chance WVU series can happen?

First game should be our biggest OOC game (PSU, Ohio St, Mich, etc). It's the best time to catch a big name that is still ironing out their own kinks, plus our staff has shown how much they benefit from extended prep time. Also most likely to get on national TV with a big name to kick off the season.

Second game should be a weak FCS team to either continue momentum or lick our wounds and restore confidence.

Third game should be an FBS team. I'd like to see us play in TX so we can get more Zach Allen's (and so I could go to some of the games). I don't think UT or TAMU would be good choices to bolster our record, but Baylor, SMU, maybe TCU, North Texas, Texas State, maybe TX Tech. I like the thought of Baylor, SMU and TCU just because they're private schools. So is Rice, but they have no following. Avoid UTEP because El Paso might as well be in Mexico (too far from TX HS recruiting hot beds).

Fourth game should be an OOC rivalry game, like RU, UConn, or WVU. I'd also be up for playing Army here, hopefully after a bye week to give extra time to prepare for their option offense. Nothing better than a late Sept/early Oct game at Michie.

I think there is a good change we could get WVU in a series. They are still going to recruit the Northeast extensively, and need to play some games in the area to help solidify their recruiting efforts.

They are also, as Mark points out, one of the few programs that would draw a lot of people to neutral site like say, Met Life Stadium, if it is decided it is in SU's self interests to play some games there.

I suggest we play our away games against lowbrow fanless ACC programs like Duke, Wake and BC at Met Life.

;)

WVU is probably going to schedule Pitt if they can over SU. I know they play Maryland every year as well. I doubt they will be on our schedule for a real long time.
I think we should copy the Northwestern, Stanford model and schedule games with private schools each year. Northwestern played Syracuse, Boston College, Vanderbilt this year. Stanford played Duke and played Wake last year. I would like to schedule
1-AA
Mac/Sun Beast/Sun Belt team
one of Vandy, Stanford, Northwestern, Rice, Tulane
one legit BCS team.
