If Syracuse was in the ACC this year, they would be the best in the conference. At worst second best... So saying the chances of that continuing are nil is ignoring the facts at present. We are the highest ranked out of current and future ACC teams right now.
I would agree that SU is probably better than Duke and North Carolina this year (not to mention other years) but let's see how everybody does in the NCAA tournament. If SU only makes the Sweet16 and Duke and NC go farther then they've had the better year.
Regardless of that, Duke and NC are founding members of the ACC and recognized as two of the premiere programs in the country, both are considered better than SU. Johnny-come-lately Syracuse isn't going to leapfrog them in anyone's mind - other than SU fans of course - as being the best program in that conference even if on-the-court results suggest otherwise.
