FWIW - We are running 5 fewer plays per game than last year.

I was sure we were running fewer plays per game than last year but I am a bit surprised that it is only 5 fewer. I know we had two easy high scoring games but we ran the same number of offensive plays in our first two games as we did in our last two (153).

Here are the game by game number of offensive plays:
SU 74 - PSU 70 (We both stunk)
SU 79 - NW 81 (Only we stunk)
SY 83 - Wagner 52
SU 70 - Tulane 68 (surprising)

I am not sure what can be inferred from these numbers except perhaps that we are close to last year's pace and as the season progresses, we may be at 2012's level. Also, those extra 5 plays feel like a lot more than they really are.

First I like the trend is mostly faster. Second I see two possible explanations for the lower total vs Tulane.

1. We consistently had a short field, if it took us more field to score we would have likely used more plays and still scored, based only on my observations
2. In the second half it felt like we slowed down given our lead, and most of the 4th quarter was played with backups and our solid but slower 2nd QB
