Nova is now 3-1 after destroying Penn 41-7. They have scored over 40 points in every game except against us.

Fordham is now 4-1 after destroying Holy Cross 45-16. Fordham's only loss was a 50-6 beatdown from Nova. In their other games Fordham has scored 52, 54, 49, and 45, outscoring their opponents 200-53.

My point is I don't want to hear anymore casual posters bring up Nova. Nova is legit contender to win the FCS championship. I'm so sick of hearing about how horrible we were against Nova when the fact is that Nova is elite at their level and would give 1/2 of P5 teams a run for their money. Every week I will continue to follow Nova and Fordham as they make their runs towards the FCS championship.

We outplayed Maryland at home and competed with a top-10 team (something I can't say we did last year). I love where we are as a team.
you love where SU is as a team? I might agree that there has been some progress year over year, but at the end of the day the offense still stinks at scoring actual points and the defense has way too much trouble getting off the field against just about every team they play.

Points will come.
The defense has been fine.

I really think a lot is riding on the Louisville game. If we score a win on Friday, that really changes the season outlook. 3-2 is where most would have pegged us to optimistically be at that point, anyway.

If we don't get the win, it's going to be exeedingly challenging to get to bowl eligibilty. Almost everything would have to go right down the stretch to get there. I'm encouraged that we've closed the last few seasons strong; might have to do it again.

I'd love to see Nova win FCS. It would make that opening game look pretty good. They not only ahd Robertson but that defensive line guy who looked like he might play on Sundays.

N0 offense but if we need to keep bringing up how good Nova has done against other North East Div 1AA teams to prop op our season then were in a whole boat load of trouble

SU is a 25 yard FG away from being 1-3. Sorry I don't feel good about where this team stands at this moment.

Still a lot of season left, so I'm not throwing in the towel, but I think it's crazy to be pleased by the current state of things.

I'm not propping it up but everyone keeps acting like we lost to Colgate. Nova could certainly beat quite a few FBS/Div1A/IDK anymore teams. Not to mention it's interesting to see what they do this season. Many are still using that game as some kind of negative. It wasn't great but Nova is alot better than most here gave them credit for and we still won without Hunt for 1/2 the game. My point isn't to prop us up but stop people from bashing us for it.

I agree on all counts. This is one of those rare times when the 5th game of the season is pretty much make or break.

Because I hate that school and everything it stands for.

Why?

And since I don't hate the school and everything it stands for why would you "fix" my post rather than making one of your own?

i think the only point you really made was that Syracuse should be in the FCS, because theyd likely be #1.

1) Why not.

2) Because you should hate them too.

Agreed.

This thread is depressing. Propping up Villanova? An FCS school and pointing out how good they are against other FCS schools?

I mean, a good chunk of the board looks at the Notre Dame game, points at the talent disparity and effectively says, "what can you do, they just have better athletes". Well, Syracuse has better athletes than Villanova, or any FCS team, and was exceedingly lucky to escape with a win and had to resort to a 4th down trick play because they couldn't punch it in against an outsized D-line.

If one has to resort to pointing out how awesome an FCS school is against peer competition, it only serves to underline how desperate one is to find a silver lining. Saying that Villanova would be competitive against half of the FBS teams is automatically putting Syracuse in the bottom half of FBS teams, and considering that Villanova should have won, perhaps even putting Syracuse in the bottom third or quarter of FCS teams. Not exactly reassuring.

I think Nova, Fordham, and Colgate should be our FCS opponent more often than not, if they are willing.

That being said, I don't take too much comfort in the fact that realistically we should be 1-3 right now.

Normally I'd be ticked (which I was after the Maryland game), but I've decided to accept the fact that we don't have a) the coaching staff and b) enough talent to expect anything beyond 6-6 during the regular season and this condition is not likely to change for the next couple of years.

I hope I'm wrong, but as another poster put it - over a 1000 yards in two games and only 29 offensive points to show for it? No matter how one slices and dices it, that's pathetic. And I'm one of the pollyannas with Orange colored glasses.

Cheers,
Neil

Give me a break. If pointing out that our first opponent of the year is alot better than anyone gave them credit for is depressing, then I suppose we better get the board a group Rx for Xanax because I was simply asking people to stop bashing us for the game. Yeah we needed a trick play, yeah we needed them to miss a FG, we still won. They say this has been one of the driest and sunniest septembers in recent history, you wouldn't know it with the black clouds following most of the posters. This offense has the pieces to move the ball, we just need to learn how to finish. The sky is not falling

I think we should probably stop talking about the Nova game altogether. It was the first game of the year, it's long enough ago at this point for it not to be a reference point to anything.

Win Friday, and things are back on track. It's going to dive again the following weekend when we lose by 50 at home, but we'll have a very important 3rd win heading into that shellacking. Get to November 4-4 and it should be an interesting month of swing games. Get to November 3-5 and there's a lot of pressure on us to keep the modest bowl streak alive.

John Robertson should be in the Heisman conversation , even if he doesn't play at the BCS level. High level FCS teams are the football equivalent to high mid-majors in basketball.

Robertson's numbers through 4 games:
70-99 passing 982 yards 12 TD's 0 INT's 68-285 yards rushing 1 TD

Removing the Cuse game:
54-72 783 yards 11 TD's 0 INT's 34-170 yards rushing 1 TD

That would put him on track for 4000 yards passing , 1200 rushing and 50 TD's. I would use a 1st round pick on him. He's a later day Roger Staubach.
