Class of 2025 G Alex Wilkins (MA) Portal from Furman

Agree all 3 definitely are not happening. Agree 1 is far more likely.

If our assumptions are correct, we have Anthony, Morano and Doty to play SG. I think Morano is at least initially going to play 2G almost exclusively. And I think Doty is going to play SF most of the time.

Wilkerson is a 2G. I think any consideration to take him was lost when we took Morano.

We need at least 1 PG. if we take 2, it means Moesch is probably redshirting.

Wilkins has 3 years left. If we end off with him, Moesch might leave. His metrics on offense are generally very good, though he turns the ball over a lot. He has issues defensively but is likely to get better over time.

Dual will be more affordable. He is great defensively but not much of a scorer. His assist to turnover ratio is very good. He has one year of eligibility left.

My guess is we end up with Dual. He plays 30 minutes a game and Moesch plays 10. Something like that. And we use the money saved at PG to get a better center and a stretch 4 that can shoot from 3.
I think I’m higher on Dual than most here, but if he’s our point guard we better get an elite player at center. I feel like the team you described is a bit short on scoring.

Dual has to come with a Wilkinson or a Wilkens or it’s going to be tough sledding for Gerry. Wilkinson may not be a true point but he’s great on the ball and very capable as a passer. Obviously Wilkens is a true PG. Going with Dual and Moesch is a massive risk given one is a frosh and the other would be thrown into the fire into a role that is not th same he had at McNeese.

I’d be very nervous if we don’t go bigger at the 1. If Dual was coming from the P4 with those numbers I could see it but he’s not.

We would need a good starter at the 4 plus an elite 5 man to offset and I’m not sure that there is a 5 good enough to make that difference up given the significance of the lead guard spot. That position has been a house of horrors not finding the right guy. Dual is a nice piece but throwing him in even as a senior to have the keys is a gigantic risk offensively.

Moesch wont redshirt.
If he is told that by GMAC, he will go elsewhere.
Only reason he turned down more money from Iowa and Providence to go to Siena was GMAC said he would be on track to be the starter and play significant minutes.

He would start at PG the minute he steps on campus. This kid is goooood.

Also can we take a moment here to give G-Mac kudos on his evaluation of talent. G-Mac wanted this kid to come to Siena, was a no star recruit. Kid decides on Furman and lights it up. Doty, no star recruit and goes to Siena, lights it up. Folefac, no star recruit and goes to Siena, veryyy good freshman season. That’s 3 dudes in 2 years that basically nobody heard about in high school. G-Mac got 2 of them, almost got the 3rd and all 3 killed it their freshman and sophomore years. That’s extremely promising. Not only shows he has an eye for talent, but the 2 that went to Siena were also developed….talent evaluation and developing talent were huge weaknesses, of the many weaknesses of the previous staff. Good stuff. G-Mac really likes this kid and we have a legit shot.

If we bring in Wilkinson, Wilkins, Wagner, Moesch, Doty, Anthony, Morano. That’s a helllll of a back court. And can slide Morano and Doty to the 3 as well. Even if we get just one of Wilkinson and Wilkins and everybody else. That’s still a hell of a backcourt. However Wilkinson and Wilkins…..that just sounds like a backcourt that was meant to be lol

Bring in Folefac, hopefully keep Sadiq, get Estrella as our front court.

Obviously we will probably need a 3/4 combo forward, a 4/5 combo forward and another true center. Then we could be off to a really good start. I’m really looking forward to some of these visits from the transfers we are targeting
We have to careful with respect to the quantity of transfers that we bring in. I would like the players that you highlighted but that is 7 guards. That is a lot for the backcourt, granted Doty, Anthony and Morano may be able to play the 3.

Okay, that's at Siena. This is Syracuse. He shouldn't be playing significant minutes here.

You may be right but the phrase “this is Syracuse” does not fly in this time and the state of the team. In case you haven’t notice, we have 4-5 players confirmed for 2026-2027 season at this time,

If Moesch is truly talented, GMAC will play him.

Sorry, "this is the ACC". Is that better?

Obviously the roster isn't built yet but if this guy is playing major minutes as a freshman we are in deep trouble.

No, not really, it is not any better. Syracuse has a ton of rebuilding to do to both its basketball team and its reputation. The ACC was the number 1 League some years ago but the last several it is lucky if it is considered in the top 5.

Syracuse over the past 10 years have been lucky to be considered in the top half of the ACC.

If Syracuse has a good team this year, it will be just the first step in the new world caused by the transfer portal. Last year, we kept 2 players/contributors from the previous year’s team. This year, we will be fortunate to keep 2, not guaranteed. Next year, we may go through the same transition as these years. It is hard to survive yet alone thrive in this environment.

Getting good players and developing them might be a step to develop a culture where the university becomes a recognizable force in college basketball. You don’t snap your fingers and you are back in the upper hierarchy.

Come out of the clouds, Buddy. We have a new coach with a big job ahead of him that includes first building a competitive team and then rebuilding a culture that will fuel a winning atmosphere. Then, having continual success where players/recruits/transfers will want to come to Syracuse to play at a highly competitive level.

I hope that GMAC is up to the task and is successful in re-establishing the desired reputation. We are at the start of the process.

Even if the ACC is number 5, the MAAC was #24, so yeah, that’s better.

Lucky to be in the top 5? ACC had many in tourney and multiple ranked teams during the year? Duke, UNC, Miami, Louisville, Virginia, SMU, NC State, Clemson. The drop offs from SU, ND, Wake, GaTech, VaTech, FSU need to be corrected.

We aren’t getting all 3 and that’s fine. Most likely would be one.

I just don’t see how we’re getting Wilkinson, Wilkins and Wagner on top of the other four. Hopefully we can get at least one. We need a top flight PG. I assume a lot of this is fluid.

Man, the staff must be watching a lot of film and talking to a lot of scouts. None of this must be easy. I hope we have a GM onboard talking to the agents.

Yeah I definitely don't see him being the starter here as a freshman, but I think if the plan here is for him to redshirt, he probably just ends up committing elsewhere instead. And maybe that's ideal for us anyways...really up to Gerry (and Moesch of course) to decide on that.

Go elsewhere where he can play right away, keep the relationship and be a legit option to portal next year if he does really well.

He sure isn’t starting here, or we’re in big trouble.
You have no way of knowing that. He constantly outplayed higher rated guards His prep coach was effusive in his praise. Smallish, white and suburban doesn’t mean he can’t play at this level. I’ll let Gerry & Co. figure it out.

The higher rated guys he outplayed struggled in their first college season.
