Class of 2024 G Martin Somerville (MD) Portal from FSU

FSU got off to an awful start. Somerville mostly started and shot a lot 3s.

They eventually got things together and were drastically better the second half of the season. Somerville improved on defense more than anyone. He stopped starting but played a lot. Shot less from the outside and played good defense.

His overall FG % was a point less than his shooting % from 3.

This is a guy who can shoot from the outside and play defense. Concerned over his inefficient FG % but suspect a lot of that is due to the putrid offense FSU ran last season. His advanced metrics are good. Definite take.

Can’t wait to hear about the wing that was supposedly visiting yesterday. Have to assume if that visit ends up in commitment that Somerville interest is moot.

It's a good bet we will have 2-3 visitors for the Spring Game. No idea who they are.

I honestly think he would start over Dual

He was on the rise when he jumped onto the scene as a freshman at UMass-Lowell At FSU his shooting took a nosedive overall when he was at FSU. Low assist rate for a PG. Not sure what happened this year outside he was maybe making the jump a year too soon…?

For me, it feels like a Somerville type player balances out our starting lineup more than Dual does. Think Dual could definitely end up being the more valuable player. Similar to Copeland’s role here is what I see for Dual.

If Dual is a Quadir-esque player they hit the jackpot. I think it’s a really fair comparison.

Similar numbers at McNeese, both taller point guards. Play a style that you don’t really teach. Dual being a failed experiment at Providence and Seton Hall has to raise some flags though.

Dual does make an interesting case. He was there year 1 with Kim English who turned out to be very similar to Red in his struggles at PC, then moved to Seton Hall where that was just a bad team and one of Holloway’s worst years as a coach to then emerge and start to show off what you would have expected more back in year 1 at Providence.

You hearing we are in good shape here?
