I get being frustrated to where we have been. We just stopped working like we needed to work. That hasn't been the case with Red. Now, we still don't know if Red can be the guy as a coach. But we have Freeman and now White. Pretty good start.

I know Carolina checked him out, but they never offered. I didn‘t see him listed anywhere as a Duke recruit.

How do you know they checked him out and never offered? Because you didn't read it somewhere? Seriously? I know that UNC has their sights set on some kids that incredibly are rated higher than White. But they don't have them yet.

I'm glad we did. Look, we know the kid isn't Cooper Flagg. But the point is that there were three rating services that could have been featured. And the worst one was talked about. That is where we are at. If we were back in 2012, we would be saying hey the kid is rated #15. And getting by LeMoyne doesn't help change that narrative.

See, I'm not sure that we can identify talent yet. I want to see more. The defense was just so bad. I honestly thought, and believe me, this was no compliment, that JJ was the second best defender in our starting lineup Monday.

It’s too early. He has potential, but he’s still a work in progress like most freshman. I will tell you that people were raving about him and his defensive ability in high school, but he hasn’t shown good defensive instincts in his first three games. He is rebounding better than I expected. I worry about his ability to handle the physicality when we start playing high major teams. He has been average or worse finishing around the basket against the teams we’ve played. It’s still early. When I hear lottery pick, I expect someone who should dominate against teams we’ve just played. He didn’t even play down the stretch against LeMoyne. That’s a little concerning. I’ll admit, my expectations on how someone should play the game are very high. I would not play anyone who didn’t put out extreme effort on defense and wasn’t fundamentally sound. If someone is a five star player, I expect a lot. There‘s guys that SU has brought in over the years that I would never put on the floor. That’s just me and people don’t have to agree. Fundamentally, SU has been poor over several years. Highly skilled and fundamentally sound players who play hard can win a lot of games over superior teams. Just look at Virginia. They shouldn’t have beat a lot of teams based on talent, but coaching and fundamentals carried them.
