Game 5 Depth Chart / Notes for Liberty

He didn't opt out, he's at the bottom of the depth chart.

He didn't play in any of the pre-season scrimmages. A scholarship QB would not sit those out unless there was something else at play.

Syracuse football roster is in a dire state. Here’s where it stands

this is why you cut everyone in the program an enormous amount of slack

And the "everyone has injuries" argument doesn't hold up. This isn't normal, and we're not Alabama. We can't just plug in RB5 and be fine.

But it does mean that Dino has to take a look and see if there's anything they can change to prevent this. I recall Marrone making some changes after injuries piled up in 2011, and we were much healthier in 2012.

Agreed, but it also doesn't explain last years bad play when injuries weren't nearly as much of a factor. Current O-line injuries are clearly playing a massive role but it doesn't tell the full story of why so many units are struggling.

Didn’t Summers have a tired arm after like two practices last year? I feel like I remember hearing that and watching a video where he could barely throw 10 yards

Agree with that. Last year is a troubling story. It's kind of surprising that we squeezed 5-7 out of it, as bad as it looked at times.

If next year is normal (no pandemic), there has to be significant improvement. Can't miss a bowl game next year, especially with the OOC schedule we have.

Mahar has played this year, but missed the Duke game due to injuries.

Alford was late getting here from Canada.

No clue on Cole and Clarke, but someone else is wearing Clarke's #11.

I believe Clarke is gone, Mahar is certainly here just hurt. I think Alford is here as well but perhaps something happened.

When Summers first arrived didn't I hear he had a case of the yips? Skipping throws.

I recall those stories also, but if there was any actual video, I never saw it. That being said, these rumblings have been around enough that i tend to think there is some truth to them.

I am interested in seeing Kpogba get extended snaps. He brings it as a tackler. Wish he had a little more size.

Such a good point and we understand the move to bigger and more athletic lbs in this system but LK can bring ot when it comes to tackling and some wood and technique on the D side is needed.

Rex Freakin Culpepper...

I have been listening to VH for days now, such an innovator. Great work rex and great taste in music. No way your pop would let you grow up listening to the garbage music of today;)

Changes are needed. A look at the training program from specific exercises to how many times we hit in full pads in camp, per week, etc. the kids may be in shape but fb shape and flexibility is lacking. Or maybe they need to hit more. Physicality has decreased alot in cfb and NFL practice, to protect players. SE and staff need to be examined but he is pretty much an untouchable being 2nd in command. Odd IMO.

Rex Freakin Culpepper...

Rex is really impressive in lots of ways, but I find his academic accomplishments pretty amazing, especially given the time constraints football players have for the fall and spring semesters (along with dealing with cancer while going to classes).

Graduating from Newhouse in 4 years is impressive as hell. To my knowledge, he might be the first football player that has ever done this. There might be others. If so, it has to be very rare.

And he graduated Magna Cum Laude!

Wow!

So, you have exactly no idea what the root causes are or are not for this injury "bug"
(besides - it's football, and sadly, people get injured playing it all the damn time),
but want sweeping changes, because:
reasons?

Fair, I get it fb is a brutal and 2020 and this pandemic isn't letting up, esp on our program. Just think we were a bit less prepared depth wise and it's not just the injuries re SE and staff; but also the way we are getting pushed around and slower with less favorable measurables. He is one of the guys dino lets talk, would love to hear from him. Not looking for anyone's job, this is a tough world we live in, but a discussion at least.
