Gary Parrish, We got in hot water with Syracuse fans

Well, I take issue with two things:

1) We are the best team, better than UNC, Kentucky or Ohio St.

2) Is he wearing mascara?

I can't take issue with anything he said in that segment.
yeah but what about a guy that has his eyebrows waxed and thinks hes on the jersey shore with his wanna be blow out.

I think this is all you need to know about Gary Parrish

Horowitz is an SU Grad in case it wasn't mentioned (no audio at work - have to lip read).

Back in 2004 Jason Horowitz and Anish Sharoff, another Newhouse product, competed on ESPN's Dream Job. Out of all the contestants on that show I think only those two have sustained careers. At 28 & 29 years of age we'll be seeing this pair in various duties in the field of broadcasting for years to come.

Adam Hall was on a different season, but clearly the most successful of the bunch.

So we don't have Carmelo = we have no top flight NBA talent or go-to guy?

I think it's become quickly apparent that Dion Waiters rebukes that mantra.

The fact of the matter is becuase JB doesn't start him and this team is so deep, these pundits have a real hard time rationalizing how this team fits into the 'traditional' title contender make-up.

i.e. very good starting 5, solid 3-4 bench contributors and at least one obvious star player that is NBA-bound.

We have arguably two top 20 calibur sets of 5... and a star player in waiters who's in the second rotation.

Reality is our team profile is better than the traditional title contender makeup... but for pundits, it's square peg/round hole issue... they don't know what to make of our hockey team wave depth all schooled in JB's athletic martian zone-d...

It's like some sort of new platypus animal that they can't quite understand or rate...

It's actually kinda funny.

Watching that video, Gary Parrish looks like he should be doing a detailed analysis of Glee, not high-level college athletics.

Honestly though, I don't think he has said anything outrageous or illogical, I do think he may be underestimating Dion though...

You have been the number #1 Dion fan on syracusefan for a very long time. Just to let you know my sister-in-law, who doesn't own a computer, also spotted him early, she has been onboard since last season.

I'm proud that on October 28 here on the board, several days before our Nov 1 exhibition game, I forecast a break out year for Dion. He hasn't disappointed.

He and most of the other CBSsports morons are underestimating the talent on SU. They are all front runners who flock to the media created "big names". Back in '03 none of them liked Cuse in the NCAA...Clark Kellogg was the only guy who picked us to make the FF that year and most in the media thought he was nuts. Few media experts were that high on Melo either...he wasn't Melo yet. It was only after he dominated Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas in the Elite 8 and FF games that he became star studded Melo (to the media guys outside Syracuse). If Dion drops 20 in couple of games in the BET and NCAA all of a sudden he will deemed a lottery pick by the media morons. Same with Fab. If he has a game with 14 points and 10 blocks in the NCAA he'll instantly be the 2nd coming of Olajuwon.

Shes gotta be a great woman!

Parrish did a good job there. Can't disagree with anything per se. He feels we deserve #1 right now which is correct but his opinion is that we won't win the NCAA's which is OK because it is his opinion even if I disagree or others. He gave us a lot of kudo's and just feels like we don't have that 1 superstar most teams that win it all have. While we have a lot of players playing very good and some playing great, do we really have a Carmelo? A guy that can carry the team on his back all by himself when needed? A guy that can score inside and outside and rack up the rebounds? A guy that commands so much attention from the other team it automatically makes everyone better around him? Not sure we do and that is why Carmelo was an Olympian and the 3rd pick in the draft after 1 season. We're a great team this year but surely not a lock for anything and that was Parrish's point I think.

in many ways this years su team reminds me of the jayhawk team that beat caliparis freebie brick layers. that team really didnt have a true star and used several different players. size and flexibility in the rotation along with tough defense makes us a favorite. Dion has star potential... valid points i agree but not always the mantra of a champion to have one guy who does it all.
