Gbinije suspended?

Honestly, this program has become a complete joke. Amazing though, how they still manage to win so many games.

It's honestly hard to root for this stuff. And can we stop with paying players b/c they're so taxed with all their responsibilities. They play hoops. Period. That's it. Let's call a spade a spade.

Sorry, but past history shows a trend, it's been a constant issue for the past 3 years. Nothing wrong was done in this thread.

This is one sad, pathetic thread. Most of the posts seem to be rooting AGAINST Syracuse basketball. This was a diddley squat nothing. And you all treated it like the Massacre at Wounded Knee. I just don't get it.

That avatar is bringing a grin to my face yet again. We won by 47 and more than doubled their point production with our 6th man in street clothes, and not the kind Jeremy Grant would wear. Apparently our society enjoys controversy. I do wonder, however, how different the game would have been if Silent G hadn't been silenced?

What's sad is that this crap has happened so regularly as to cause everyone to fall to pieces over it.

What crap, in this instance? A lot of folks on here went right to the ncaa violation conclusion rather than sit back and consider that maybe he just violated a team rule. Look around college hoops. This stuff happens all the time at other schools. It doesn't mean ncaa violations. For all I know, he missed a class or failed a test. People fell to pieces over this probably due to their own perception that SU is a rogue program not the reality of the situation.
I agree with cto, a lot of people on here seem to want something bad for SU hoops for whatever reason.

CTO, sadly, threads like this have become the norm rather than the exception. I still have difficulty wrapping my head around the way many here rip current players.

This once great site is very quickly morphing into the newspaper board. Pathetic.

The next time certain posters show a little patience and wait for facts to emerge will be the first time.

Okay, let's be circumspect here. The reason there was a level of reaction is because there have been eligibility/suspension issues in the recent past. No need to list 'em, we know them all. Some were serious, some not so much. No one can deny that Fab's brain cramp still stings a little. Add to it the current NCAA investigation is still hanging in the air. We're all a little wary over that, too. So, thus the reason for this post, let me point out to those who are today clucking their tongues at others for their "overreaction," that none of you said anything until after it was confirmed, more or less, to be something minor. Because you all felt it, too. So, while we're now going to try to be a little less reactionary (sure we are, lol!), let's also try to be a little less judgmental.

If he broke a team rule, I'm glad JB suspended him.

OMG! As if this wasn't cause enough for complete and utter program alarm... and then CTO tips us off by letting us know someone on the team has a knee injury so severe it is best described as a "massacre". Alas... the season is likely lost!!!

I feel like this is almost as big of an overreaction to the board as some posters overreacted to Mike G being in street clothes.

It is in some people nature to fear the worst first. I don't condone it but realize that it happens when you get different types of people all together.

I suppose it doesn't help that JB refuses to offer much insight into what it is that happened? The players that allegedly broke the team rule (not NCAA mandated rule) surrounding marijuana usage and weren't suspended are reportedly forming the basis for some of what is before the infractions committee.

So if he MG broke curfew Thursday night or skipped a mandatory class or meeting, then I agree no biggie, it happens and who cares. But, JB hasn't historically been a disciplinarian, so when a player has to sit out a game it has usually been a bigger issue than simply a "team thing" with no further consequences.

Of course, I am in the let it play out and if he's playing on Sunday let's not worry about it camp. But, I said what I did above because I understand why others may react the way they do/did.

Again. He sat out, We won by 47.

And he will be back Sunday vs Hampton.

Trevor Cooney said "Violation of Teams rules, That's all it was, He served his punishment, and we move on now"

I don't care what he did. He didn't play, we won big, and He's back Sunday.

Move On !!!

A lot of this agita could have been avoided simply by a pre-game notice to the press stating that MG had been suspended for 1 game for a violation of team rules and that nothing further would be discussed per team policy (as SWC75 stated in his "downside" post). What's so hard about that?

I would argue that out recent history of having to sit players and go in front of the NCAA after being investigated seems to warrant a concern.

Just because people are fans of the program, doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to have concerns regarding how it's going.

That isn't rooting against the program. It's legitimate concern regarding the way the program is being run.

Maybe G just missed a meeting or something. No big deal. But when you are consistently sitting players it can, I repeat - can, seem like a lack of control.

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal at all, but I can understand why someone might.

Again, abusive or offensive language, repetitive posts or inane rumors should be treated with a heavy hand. I think this is a fair concern, however, because of the pattern.

Maybe it's just a symptom of the NCAA's ridiculous rules, but all teams are playing under that umbrella as of now.

Just my 0.02.

Stephen Covey once said, "Between stimulus and response is our greatest power -- the freedom to choose."

Knee jerk reactions and assumptions aren't the best choice. Perspective is important.

I do find it interesting that whatever Michael Gbinije did or didn't do violates a team rule and merits a suspension.
But shoplifting doesn't.

And no one knew that until after the game. The amount of sanctimonious piety from some people with the benefit of hindsight is sickening.
If hindsight means waiting until we have more information, I'll take that approach every time.

I think czar was addressing the manner in which people reacted after the concerns expressed no longer appeared necessary. I don't have a horse in this race, but some might find the act of belittling others' concerns after the fact to be somewhat tacky. Some might even worry that certain posters may dig up the older investigation threads and goad on others whose concerns didn't turn out to be the case. We've never seen that on here though, right?
