GEICO High School Lacrosse on ESPN U

Dylan Sageder '22, LSM, Mount Sinai / Team 91 LI / Syracuse - NLF No. 46 '22
Sageder showed the continued evolution of his game, one that has helped him firmly establish himself as one of the premier LSMs in the country. He’s cut from a similar cloth as lot of fellow Team 91 LSMs where he focuses more on defense and havoc in the middle of the field over trying to score goals and primarily play offense.

Sageder had at least three caused turnovers in the game. The ‘Cuse signee was accurate and timely with his checks but didn’t get beat, either, showing the ability to marry good stickwork with quality positioning and footwork. None of his takeaways were better than a second-quarter can opener right at the midline. Sageder timed up his opponent’s cradles and landed the check perfectly, and it was a turnover that gave the Mustangs some much-needed juice.

Worry a bit about him getting lost in the shuffle next year at LSM, lots of returning pieces there and I expect Clary to look better another year removed from his knee injury. Olexxo will need to raise his game another level.

Riley Figueiras ’22, defense, St. John’s / Syracuse

The Cadets may not worry too much about matchups, but Figueiras seems to find himself covering opponents’ top scoring options pretty often. He’s covered a wealth of the best attackmen in the country and still has not given up a goal in coverage at 6v6. It doesn’t make sense. Figueiras just blanketed everything in his path, always played with his stick in front of him and forced a lot of low-quality shots from the Friars. He also did a nice job of keeping in constant communication with his teammates. The next huge check he throws might be the first of the year because he’s just so good at matching feet and denying where his matchup wants to go.
