I did go back and your right, Maryland was pollign him a lot more then I remember in both games. He was shorted a few possessions but it wasn't nearly as much as I thought. As an aside Thomson missed a couple of goals he usually buries in both games. SU middies as you noted didn't come through on their short stick matchups in either game which is concerning on the watchback. Obviously Schaller erasing Joey was what Maryland wanted to do defensively and force someone else to beat them which they did from essentially the 2nd half of the 1st game through the final four matchup. I do think that having 3 dodging options at attack would present a different wrinkle to throw at Maryland but certainly the mids going against shorties have to have success which is why McCarthy will need to play his best game on Fri night he will draw the 2nd shortie for sure. I will say when you go back and watch both games, SU just couldn't get any consistency from the top 6. Leo had zero pts in the 1st match up and shot 2 for 11 in the final four game. Hiltz had 2 goals in the 1st matchup but only took 5 shots in the final four game and scored only 1 goal very early in the game and had no assists. Joey 1 assist in the final four game after 4 pts in the 1st meeting. Rhoa had only 1 pt in both games. English 1 pt in the 1st game and 3 pts in the 2nd. Obviously as you noted the mids vs short sticks struggled in both games. The 2nd mid line was zero factor in both games as well. 0pts in the 1st game and 1pt (an assist from Hottle) in the 2nd game. SU just isn't getting it done offensively.
