Gerry McNamara needs to be the next coach

The part of G-Mac that I don't have the answer but that can't be ignored as a big factor to is how much of a boost to NIL would hiring McNamara have over rando with promising resume but no Syracuse ties (i.e. Phil Martelli Jr.).

Would it be a massive boost? Is it the thought that big boosters are still looking for a connection to the past in making NIL Contributions? They are not moving towards a fresh start approach and national hire? I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just basing things on my gut perspective.

Even if its a short term NIL boost with GMac, which I'm not sure is true or untrue, what will really boost NIL is winning ... after year 1 or year 2. To me that has to be focus if we are looking at it from an NIL lens.

The only difference is if its a massive NIL cheque, far, far above anything else, came with a specific coach.

Settling is going for Hop. Who didn’t improve his team while Gmac obviously did. If u r talking bennett or Jay Wright or even pearl im with ya. Hodg has a year more head coaching so what’s the difference. Tell me it wouldn’t be EPIC for Gmac to turn us around into top ten school every year if he could. Dome would be nut so.
It would be epic if he turned us around. I just don't believe he has the ability to do it.

Hodgson coached two years at the Sun Belt (20th ranked league via NET rankings) and then a year in the AAC (10th ranked league), while Gerry coached two years in the MAAC (25th ranked league).

It's easier to jump from the 10th ranked league to the 4th (ACC) when you have the experience of making a jump before. Jumping from the 25th (where you have a significant advantage in NIL over the other teams) to the 4th is much different.

Ur not wrong. I’m good with either one. Would Mac be a 1 b if we don’t get hodge

If they weren't supporting the program before Gerry left and were caught behind the eightball and were still struggling to catch up even last year ... I don't see how hiring Gerry would result in a huge influx of dollars. Were donors avoiding giving Red money or was Gerry not advocating for money while on Red's staff?

I don't know enough about the donor community to confidently assess whether that poster was correct or not -- but your thoughts seem to match my view from a not fully informed outsider perspective. I just don't see that it would be a massive boost.

I just don’t see why Gerry would want to put his family through it at this time. If he’s hired a majority of the fan base will be upset or unease about a continuation hire. If he’s does not take SU to the tournament in the first year the pitch forks will come out not just for Gerry but Blair and Hayne. Whether it’s fair or not there will not be a grace period with the fans or media for a legacy hire right now without immediate success.

Just getting a contract with Syracuse would be life changing money for his family, even if he is released in his first contract.

There is no guarantee that what happened at Siena this year is sustainable, so this could be the best opportunity he would ever have to strike.

Yes there would be stress, but if you are asking for a reason why Gerry would consider that would be it.

Lots of dreamers here. We are never going to out recruit the established ACC teams. How are the old northern BE teams doing in the ACC? Success would be a fairly consistent low seed team in the big dance. The good old days are not coming back.

Not really if he only lasts 3 years as head coach at SU. He will have to scramble for a head coach job at a lower level or an assistant coach somewhere. He could probably stay at Siena for 10+ years if he wants at $400-$500k a year I am guessing.
