The other reality is that, like it or not, the national perception is you can't win at Syracuse. So you don't make high profile (or any offers for that matter) public at the risk of being turned down because this only reinforces the perception. That perception also significantly limits the "realistic" pool from the jump.

The next HC at SU will most likely be a current coordinator at a P5, or a current HC at a lower program looking for a shot to move up (provided he is not a hot target of SEC or B1G schools), or a less successful HC looking to prove himself.

If/when it plays out that way, it will be misconstrued by some here as SU didn't want to spend the money, or only hires coaches with ties here, or didn't "make Mullen say no."
