After we lost to UNC we were 10-7 (0-4) and on track to not even make the NIT. Every Syracuse fan on the face of the Earth would have signed up in a millisecond for 18-10 (8-7) at this point in the season.

For our standards, this is a likable, but objectively below average Syracuse team. All we have to do to make the tourney is win 2 out of our last 3 games. One we'll be favored, one is a pick em, one we're an underdog.

We would have killed for this scenario after the UNC game.

I totally agree. I like your half-full thinking. Here's what I think which is a re-post from another thread:

I honestly think every game we are going to win. And every time we lose for me it feels like losing to Vermont or Dayton.

Dixon and Pitino have played us for years. They know how to prepare to beat our zone. I feel your pain and frustration. But think of it this way. Every time we lose think of it has happy fuel to heighten the experience for when we do win.

I still believe :)

It's like the first 5 minutes of a fishing a trip. It's all hopeful. And then reality sets in. Sometimes it takes a few hours but then something big happens:

Brother, you are the king of the catfish! Nice analogy either way. I've gotten to the point now where I realize, even if I don't get the slightest nibble the whole while we are out there, it's still fishing and it's still a blast! My boy caught his first, a brown trout, a few years ago. And this was after a few trips. But man, that excitement of the first catch. BAM!

Now you did it! I have to tell a fish story! First, it's so awesome when the little men catch fish. My older son is really good at fishing. My younger son catches all the bait. My father-in-law owns the house on lake Gaston. The catfishing there is amazing. But it's actually not as good as it was 10 years ago. They started spraying to kill the Hydrilla and the catfishing is not as good. When we first started fishing there the catfish would break every poll we brought. Finally, I started using 30 pound braided line with 70 pound snap swivels. So one night I hooked a monster. And I had the drag on pretty hard with 30 pound test. And that sucker almost took all the line off the spool. I has sweating at the end and after 50 yard run the fish just sat there swimming for 3 minutes and I made no progress reeling him in. After what seemed like forever I finally had this monster near the dock. He went over to the pontoon boat rolled over and hit it. The whole pontoon boat moved and was rocking back and forth on the boat lift. It was amazing. He then rolled around and went under the dock and I lost him. Every year for about 5 years now I've been trying to catch that fish!

Maybe this guy already caught my fish:

My hope is to hook his young brother this April!

After the last 2 disasters, I'm not sure how anyone can have total confidence in this team. Play like they did against ND or FSU and they can play with just about any team. Play like they did against Pitt and Louisville (I'm assuming UNC beats us) and nothing is guaranteed. NC State big men went 11-17 from the floor against Clemson. They beat Clemson with Barber going 1-12. Rowan, who I never saw shoot well, scored 20. Boeheim has some coaching to do.
