Well, many of the D1 guys will also be older than him. He has potential I agree, but some posters already have him starting and averaging 20. Just trying to slow things down a bit.

i see him as a potential starter. no idea if he will be but will likely in the rotation. i haven't seen anyone predict 20ppg unless its a 1 off i missed.

My original post has a key phrase “so far.” Things aren’t instantaneous, they take time. He’s done everything this board wanted thus far. Good staff, euro guy, cleared out the roster. We can only judge him on the first week, and he has nailed it. This does not mean he will ultimately be successful in the portal or on the court. All I’m saying is he’s done a great job with his initial moves.

I understand we have been beaten down for the last decade, but we can still celebrate small victories along the way. Carry on.

I get it. Results will ultimately be determined on the court. We need to be back in the tournament year 1.

Hope you’re right. But I read a lot of the same type of praise when we signed Fennell. Rather keep my expectations low and be pleasantly surprised that the other way around.

99.9% of the posters on this forum are excited about GMac. Pointing out an issue or concern doesn't make someone "miserable" or a dissenter.

We have a lot of work to do before we can feel comfortable about this roster, and our prospects for next season. Being successful is going to take a lot more than just enthusiasm.

Honestly, the groupthink around here is getting deep. We're all excited about McNamara, but the need to shout down any opinion that isn't wild-eyed optimistic is getting boring.

I don't know if it means anything at this point really. I do think there would be more energy if the first portal guys, after the uber obvious Doty, were fresh faces for people to get excited over.

Kinda like the Euro recruit.

Only outstanding question is: who's the GM?

To me so far a mediocre start though I do have a certain amount of optimism. Sounds like we have a decent shot at some solid names, but those names arent here yet.

Hard for me to imagine that GMAC didnt want to retain Freeman and George and those guys are gone, White seems to be at best on the fence, so he is batting .000 on the retention side of the ledger. Betsy and Fennell - dont know if Gerry wanted them. The only surefire retention seems to be Kiyan and it would probably take renaming the Melo Center to lose him.

He obviously can get anybody he wants from Sienna and MMM sounds like a good pickup, but as of this exact point in time he is the only positive definite surprise.

I'm really happy with the coaching hires and portaling in a Slovenian wing. ++ on that front. OTOH, we are now likely going to have at least 4 Siena guys on the roster. That's a concern that shouldn't be dismissed out of hand, but it's not panic button until we see the whole picture.

There’s nothing wrong with bringing in Siena players. Ben McCollum brought in 5 Drake players to Iowa. Two of those guys were below division 1 at one time. Stirtz was the only starter and two of those guys that sat the bench at Drake started this year.
