Goaltend call video

JB's "Bullshit" statement toward the end of that video seems appropriate.

it wasnt even above the rim yet when he blocked it.. and that bucket spurred a mini run for them.. at about the time i thought we would seize control and go up 5 or 6 into the half.

and not a peep from anyone in the media about that. because, you know, unca had like 19 calls go against them and we had 0. they would have won by at least 15 points if they'd had all the calls go correctly.

Sweet sassy molassey, that's even worse than I remember.

Seriously. That video is an illustration of a perfect block. I'd say it may have even still been going up or had just reached the top of the trajectory, but no way was it on the way down yet. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Yet not a flipping peep out of the talking heads about that one. Awful. Seriously.

Wow, we even used the same words...

Can someone send that to CBS so that they can continue to assess the quality of officiating in our upset of the better team? Then they can whine about how it should have been goaltending AND a foul.

For those clamoring.

I remember them cutting away at that point and thinking they had called a foul and that it was a bullstuff foul call. Goaltending was the furthest thing from my mind as even a possibility at that point. It's amazing how truly awful a lot of basketball referees are - half of their whistles are anticipation calls and then they simply make something up to justify their having blown the whistle in the first place. :bang:

That's the problem right there in a nutshell. The game moves way too fast for them sometimes so they have to rely on "experience" which is just a nicer way to say guessing based on past experiences.

at the same time - if you focus on #3 for SU in that clip it's a perfect synopsis of the lazy ass effort Dion gave all game on the defensive end of the floor. If they don't call that goaltend that's likely an easy put back anyway by the UNCA kid who was hustling for the ball while Dion stood there flatfooted watching the action. If he actually tried on defense or hustled after loose balls yesterday SU wins comfortably.

Ohhh, good point. Hadn't watched the action afterwords. Probably would have scored easily there, although tough to say since the whistle was blown. SU players all stopped.

The most frustrating thing about the character assassination going over that game is the total lack of credible research being done by the media. If you are going to write an entire article about how the officiating determined the outcome of the game - how do you NOT go look at the entire game and evaluate all the calls. This false goal tend and the "whoops we forgot we called a foul" at the end of the first half created a 4 point advantage for UNCA. But they aren't in the discussion at all.

How can these reporters cherry pick one or two calls to prove their point and get away with it. Man I just hate the world.

Luke Winn would be our only hope of someone performing such an analysis of the entire game, btw.

If only you had been on the Grassy Knoll.

Well done with the videos today.

Watch joseph's reaction as well. He challenges the initial penetration, then his "job" is over. Kind of a microcosm of the effort on D all game.

The Asheville bench thought it was pretty funny.

It doesn't matter guys because according to the Ashville coach and most of America, the better team loss. Even though I can't recall a team losing by 8 with 2 minutes to go being better but hey what do I know :)

The other goaltending call that everyone's crying about is nothing more than moving the goalposts. No one was talking about it until after the lane violation was explained and the hypocrisy of the out-of-bounds call was exposed.

Yup, they keep going down the list until something sticks.

You could tell during the immediate postgame that they were lined up & prepared to make a big deal out of that line violation ... then when it got instantly refuted as being beyond a doubt the right call they looked like deer in headlights.

Now they're trying to make the argument that "that call should never be made that late in a game like this." ... but the violation was called on the player who actually got the rebound too! That is the entire reason the rule exists!
