Goaltend call video

This video is exactly why I never bother to bitch and moan about the referees at the end of a game if Syracuse loses (admittedly, I used to up until about 3 or 4 years ago), because I'm sure my orange-colored glasses would turn a blind eye to something like this if the roles were reversed. Bad calls happen throughout the game on both sides, its part of the game, to go and cherry pick a couple instances and say that cost any team the game is an exercise in futility.

You could tell during the immediate postgame that they were lined up & prepared to make a big deal out of that line violation ... then when it got instantly refuted as being beyond a doubt the right call they looked like deer in headlights.

Now they're trying to make the argument that "that call should never be made that late in a game like this." ... but the violation was called on the player who actually got the rebound too! That is the entire reason the rule exists!

You're exactly right about why this rule is in place.

It appeared to me (I may be wrong) that this rule violation was a designed play by Asheville also. On free throw shots, 2 defensive players get the inside part of the lane then 2 players from the offense take the next lane spaces and another defensive player choses a side. None of the UNC Asheville players even went for the rebound and instead used all their players to "pin" SU's 2 players away from the ball. It almost looked like the ball would have fallen to the ground if the Asheville player from up top hadn't taken off when Scoop released the ball to circle around and get the board. Why were the Asheville players, 2 with superior position pushing totally backwards and not making any attempt for the rebound?

There's nothing stranger than getting on a ref about making a call based on the rules of the sport!

Barkley said no ref calls that in the 4th quarter. Love Barkley, but why again is he on this particular stage?
