I'm a Texas Aggie fan, also been watching the Orange defense this year and been very impressed!

I think the orange and the Ags have polar opposite problems, if the Ags had a defense and the orange had an offense the fan bases would be happier groups.

I have a question for your faithful, I know HCSS is a fantastic D coordinator, is the Orange defense his product or completely Chuck Bullough's? Also, what's the general opinion around the orange nation of coach Clark Lea, just what little I know about the guy, I think he is a fantastic young coach.

I would love to here your thoughts.

Thanks and Beat the Hell Outta Pitt!

Can we combine teams? Half a season at College Station, half a season at Syracuse?

Shafer is a HC that "let's the coaches coach." Bullough and Shafer have the same defensive style but the defense is Bullough's. Very similar approach but definitely different. Last year we had lots of missed assignments and blown coverages - not so much this year as the guys started to really get it.

Maybe when the folks here at SU get their wish that Shafer gets let go, A&M can hire him as DC so he can make more money there.

Just from an outsiders view, I think all cuse is missing is a really good O coordinator. I really like HCSS and hope to see Syracuse University give him a pass on this year. I thought you guys had a decent year last year and if he can get things straight on offense, you guys should compete.

Nothing against you guys and I have no clue if either party would be interested, but I hope when A&M goes looking for a new DC this off season Chuck Bullough is given some serious consideration.

That's my thought too - but it's a minority view around here for the most part.

Chuck would be very good for you guys. Just don't take our line coach or LB coach ;). I'd bet Daoust gets the nod as DC if Chuck leaves.

I fell in love with the SU defense watching last years Texas bowl. A great game I thought, especially the last quarter. Anyway, my Ags are going to be in the DC market. You guys shouldn't worry much though, I seem to be the only guy down here that knows what you guys have up there in the way of coaches so I'm certain we are no threat. However, if Bullough were to be offered I would only offer with the stipulation Lea come too.

Same convo I have with my UGA fan brother-in-law just switch A&M w/ UGA.

I just hope you don't face any option offense teams!

You cannot have him. Our WR coach might be looking.

If you like living on the edge you will love Chuck Bullough. He and Shafer are pretty much the same type of coach. Kamikaze blitzes, that force the other team to make a play. Not that i'd want to get rid of Bullough, but i'd be very interested to see that style of play with the level of athletes you get at Texas A&M. It's pretty much a give in. If the opposing team has an average, to below average qb, Bullough most likely is going to chew you up and spit you out. The only problem is if you get an above average qb, who is mobile, that can make quick reads, and some throws, there is a chance you can get picked apart.

Take him. He's a terrible fit at SU. Best case scenario, he is a great X's and O's guy that solves a problem that we don't have (HCSS is a fantastic DC). Worst case scenario, Chuck doesn't actually do anything and HCSS is secretly doing all the work. Either way, the value add is 0.

Losing Chuck means we could eitherbring in a cheap DC and throw more money at getting a legit OC (which we desperately need), or bring in an elite recruiter (which we desperately need now that McD is probably on his way out). *Those* would be good fits.

This is pretty much the read I get on him and I think it works along side an offense like the one KDS runs. We have a youngster for a OC and Sumlin has pretty much taken over since getting embarrassed by bama. We need a guy that Sumlin can point to the defensive side of the building and forget about it.

What has impressed me the most about the Orange D is the run defense you guys have. With the teams in our league you must stop the run! The SEC doesn't have the passing QB's of some leagues, I think CB would chew them up and spit them out. Or at least slow them down enough to force more than 1 punt per half!

That has been Bullough's strength since he got here. I know we had the longest streak without allowing a 100 yard rusher going. Nobody topped 100 yards on us last year and that included guys like David Cobb, Andre Williams, Devontae Booker, James Connor, etc (not going to count 3 GT guys hanging 80+each ). Mind you he has done this with a pretty undersized DL. Only Jay Bromley (DT) will get drafted out of that group the past 2 years.
