Hate to be that guy bit this is unwatchable. The musical guest is so bad people in the stands are laughing. The announcers keep talking about stuff not on camera and the first 25 minutes was basically walkons from both the men's and women's team dancing horribly. Can they please scrimmage already. Only positive was seeing orange extreme and gocusecaz getting some TV time.

I said the same thing holy hell is that the best they can find?

Just think: they're making people pay to watch this online.

How is it possible that an event that has never been stellar, got worse?

Note to Coyle. You can't run out of posters at 6:15.

A brief scrimmage and a dunk contest with 3 dudes, including a walk on, is not going to excite people.

I would love to see them do either a 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 tournament. Or maybe 3-on-3. You could run through that pretty quick, just have games to 7 or something, playing by 1's.

Sorry. Sounds like a good recipe for someone to twist an ankle.

I never, ever turned my ankle playing half court basketball. I only ever turned my ankle playing full court, 5 on 5. So I guess my evidence is just as good as yours since you're only basing this on your own experience and absolutely nothing more.

How bout this for an idea. Men vs Women scrimmage.

In what universe is that worth anything to anyone? The men's program is an elite version in the country and the women's isn't. The men are bigger, faster and stronger. That's going to demoralize the women's program and become a dunk contest for the men, which is already in the evening.

I'm reminded of an article in Sports Illustrated back in the 90s (or maybe early 00s, can't recall), detailing how Pat Summitt would get male students (not actual scholarship athletes) who played in high school, but couldn't be above a D3 level, and weren't allowed to play "above the rim" to scrimmage against her team regularly. The men - who, also, if I'm not mistaken, were all 6-2 and under or so - would regularly beat the Vol women's team with relative ease.

But I'm sure pitting a perennial top 25 men's team against a historically average women's team would be a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Just throwing ideas out. How bout a mixed scrimmage is that any better idea. Mix the teams.

Maybe the event would look and have more juice if more of the town and fanbase came out.

Pack that place like a game against Duke. And maybe they would plan do up the event better.

They prob know the quantity and quality of the crowd they will get for this event, and thus the production u r seeing tonight.

There's not a single athletics department in the world that runs events with that mindset. Every event is given an extraordinary amount of attention and effort whether you're playing for 10,000 people or 10. Good lord.

1 on 1 would be good. Used to do that in the late 80's
I'm just thinking back to all of the basketball camps I used to go to. By far the most fun day at every one of them was when we got to do the 1 on 1 tournaments.

Then why r there not more people there tonight. Just asking.

There aren't more people there tonight because this is the crap they get to see. Who the heck wants to watch this if you aren't a diehard? Most people have lives and even diehards can't convince the other half who isn't a die hard this is worth the time effort and money.

Seriously if the wife said we can go to 5 events at the dome this season, are you wasting one on Midnight Madness? I sure as heck wouldn't.

If the event was exciting more people would go. It's not a fanbase issue we pack the place for games because the product is worth it. We pack it against Duke because it's worth it as a product. Midnight Madness will never be that level of exciting, but they can absolutely make it better than it is now.
