He's also independently wealthy though, so I can't imagine that, if he leaves, it will be due to the pay. It'll be for a bigger opportunity, purely, I'd think.

If you can believe wikipedia..

'Enfield entered into a partnership that developed TractManager, a company supplying business technology services to the health services industry, which grew to a value of $100 million before he sold his share in the company.[3] Enfield is married to Amanda Marcum, a former model,[4] and has three children.'

he had a small share. He made bucks but not the wealth that the media hinted at.

Look at his life -- it seems like he's taking on new challenges all the time. College hoopster, 'shot doctor', NBA coach, entrepreneur, FGCU head coach. There is a pattern. He's conquered this challenge, I bet it's time to move on to the next one.

Yeah I own a share of AT&T and when I sell it I will get $36.

Mike Hopkins has done an INCREDIBLE job at Syracuse. He's been here a long time and he's been very successful helping us build this program recently. If his goal and ambition is to be the next Head Coach at USC than this isn't good news. I am all for him living his dream. Do I want him to stay at Syracuse. Selfishly, of course I do. But he's done enough for us. Let's root for him to get this opportunity if it's what he wants. He's earned that respect from us.

To go from FGCU to UCLA is unheard of. This clearly has to do with his wife and a beach,

ummm...steve alford has accepted the ucla job,and now is considered the front runner for the usc job;)

This whole head coach-in-waiting thing must be hurting Hopkins on the job market if this is true. No one wants to hire a part-timer. Even if he has no intention of returning to Syracuse when Boeheim leaves, it must be difficult convincing other ADs of that. Hopkins must be super-conflicted about his deal with SU. On the one hand, it's a chance to coach a marquee program---your program---straight out of the chute without a rebuilding process and with players that you largely recruited. On the other hand, you're the number two man to a guy that doesn't seem to be ready to retire any time soon and no pressure from the fans/admins on him to do so not only because he's a HOFer but because his club is performing at a very high level. He's like the Prince Charles of SU basketball. Wait a couple more years and the admins might start looking for someone younger to take over for Boeheim. The head coach-in-waiting deal is fantastic for SU in the interim. You lock up your top recruiter long-term, you don't have to worry about people using Boeheim's age and uncertainty about the future against you.

He said the other day he still has to work for a living.
