Just another numbing, soul-crushing loss in a 16 year span of them. Now that I've cooled off from yesterday's fiasco, a few notes: - The last time I was this despondent or angry after a football game was the SU/Pitt game of 2 years ago, where Pitt consumed the clock on a 9:45 drive to end it. The drive featured 87 plays with 53 third down conversions (note, actual records may contradict this but that's how it felt at the time). Leaving the Dome that day felt awful...and that's about how it felt last night. -I've tried to defend Tyrod Taylor on this board and with my fellow Bills fans, but I am running out of ways to do it. Yes, he is throwing to a banged up Sammy Watkins along with other 5th & 6th options, but he folded like a cheap suit yesterday. Once Oakland made adjustments defensively in the second half, he was unable to do so. I noticed on the first ball that Watkins caught that when he made his break- the ball was RIGHT there. Exactly what you want! Later on, every pass was being 'looked' open instead of trusting the reads. Franchise QBs HAVE to rise above and make their teams better. He is not doing this. - That said I don't think his contract is as onerous as others have said. Yes, $27MM is a huge amount- but $12 of that is a bonus and $16M is the base salary, which is well below what other top QBs are earning. I don't how the Bills move forward but this won't hamstring us financially. There is a lot of $ coming off the books the next few years...the bigger issue is that they would continue to be investing in something that may not yield the dividends you want. Tough decision to be made at OBD this spring. - Rex should walk his @ss home from Oakland, along with every other member of the coaching staff. With the caveat that I am not an "X & O" genius, it feels like the Bills get away from what's working at times. Why you would run a Wildcat twice in a row is absolutely beyond me. Maybe that was their version of adjustments, I don't know. Bottom line, as we all have commiserated here- Ryan is a .500 coach. Yes the Bills have had injuries, but good teams rise above. I just don't see the Bills being a consistent 10-6, 11-5 team under Ryan. - Better question would be what happens to Whaley if a change is made? He has done an exceptional job in free agency, especially with low cost free agents...but his draft record is hit and miss. I'm not optimistic that Cardale Jones is going to pan out either. My gut would be to keep him if Rex gets canned, but he should definitely be feeling some heat for the lack of a long-term solution at QB... On to year 17 of the playoff drought...between this team and SU football, we all deserve medals. Or counseling.
