The ratings matter a lot for the advertising rates for the TV partners and for how much they can charge and the ratings matter to the sponsors of these bowl games who pay big bucks to have their company's name attached to these bowl games. If you don't think ratings and revenue matter I don't know what you tell you but I couldn't disagree more. Ratings always matter. The committee wants to sap every penny they can out of these games for themselves and for their TV partners. If having ND in the Final Four means a higher rating that gives them (the committee) ammunition to charge sponsors more next year and beyond to attach their names to these bowl games (Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Capital One Orange bowl..etc). It gives the TV partner ammunition to charge more for advertising rates for those games. And when they have to negotiate the next deal many years down the line, they will of course go off the ratings history of all of these Final 4 and championship games. Ratings always matter! Which is why the committee will keep Clemson #1 overall even though they probably don't deserve to be #1 overall (probably should be #2 or #3) as it keeps ND looking stronger and then they can justify having ND in the Final 4 as their only loss was by 2 pts with a back-up QB at the #1 team overall! Ratings always matter. Revenue always matter and Revenue is far from "fixed"
