Not to make this into a football thread, but the most telling thing from that interview was his comments regarding SU football and although a big fan of Marrone's, how it's so apparently obvious that he needs to do a better job in recruiting considerable talent. He could not emphasize enough the huge difference in sheer overall presence watching our guys get off the team bus vs. some of our conference competitors, let alone the traditional powerhouse schools.

Doug dropped SU to 4 this week in his rankings. Gasaway put SU at 5. Nice.

We have 9 games left and this guy guarantees we will "lose 5 or 6 more games" because we have some "serious, serious problems" LOL. I'll take the under.

I don't know what comment is dumber 5 or 6 more losses or serious, serious problems?

You don't see us going 3-6 to finish out the season? hahaha

I said 29-2 and I'm sticking with it. I will bring that thread back when it happens and rejoice!

Specifically, he said there's a "gigantic, GIGANTIC difference between our guys and the other teams when they get off the bus" 2 gigantics? Dude is on the hyperbole train hardcore.

Yea I thought that was some interesting comments he made. Serious serious problems? At 21-1 we have serious problems?

at 21-1 we don't just have serious problems, we have "serious, serious problems"

I would have stopped him at 5 or 6 losses with a laugh.

It is not at all unreasonable to think that Syracuse could lose 4 more games by the end of the BET. That would finish with "5 or 6" I mean we have 4 games with 2 team that have owned us in the regular season.

People forget how backloaded our schedule is.

I can see 3 but not 5 or 6.

Its also not unreasonable to think this Syracuse team is different and has already taken care of one of the infamous "own us" teams. Louisville BLOOOOWWWWSSSSS. Uconn is AVERAGE

We are not losing 5 or 6 more games heading into the tourney. DNABB I'll buy ya a sixer of Racer 5 if it happens

Yeah, clearly exaggerating...though I don't think anyone can claim our recruiting doesn't need to improve, and significantly at that.

It's amazing what one crappy night does for expectations. JB said something to the effect, he has never had a team where every player played poorly on one night. First time against ND.

Amen, he was spot on about that part

I agree and for the main reason you mention...he did say through the BET...

Now, his serious, serious deficiencies remark is a bit extreme (I wish that Brent had probed on that vs. being so passive) but as many pundits have eluded, rebounding is a significant issue as well as our struggles executing in the half court, magnified when not capitalizing on so many fast break gimmes off turnovers...then there's our usual poor FT...hopefully that putrid display at the end of the Cincy game isn't a trend.

Well yah, welcome to college athletics. You think we stunk because of X's & O's?

Agree, but I think that was compounded due to the whole Melo situation and the (in the moment) emotion of what this team may look like without him moving forward. Had Melo played and we laid an egg like that, it would of generally been dismissed as just a poor outing, can't win them all, etc. without any diminished expectations...

Well, imo somewhat, or at least in part...that's my short version answer. I won't get into specifics here as this has been discussed considerably over at the football side during the course of the season. Though, just as Burr stated, getting 4 and 5 star recruits isn't the end all blueprint in attaining success (he specificifically mentioned Boise St. as an example).

This is a really minor disagreement, and I think this sounds far more shrill than I mean it to, but UConn really hasn't owned us. 9-11 against then since 2001 and 6-4 in our last 10 games against them.
2001 - 1-0
2002 - Didn't play, and the Big East should be ashamed of itself for that.
2003 - 0-2
2004- 1-2.
2005 - 1-2 (BET win)
2006 - 1-1
2007 - 2-1
2008 - 0-1
2009 - 1-1
2010 - 1-0
2011 - 1-1

I think JB forgot the DePaul game in 2006 and the Kansas NCAA game in 2001.

But it is amazing how our expectations ebb and flow.
