Gottlieb raises SU losing #1 seed

Good point.
If you win every game by 1 point and lose two by 15 with only 2 losses on the season and are part of a BCS conference though, that is all they are going to see.

We played
Gtown, UL and Uconn twice, that is pretty solid right there alone.

The commitee will factor in the fact that we lost to ND without Fab Melo I would imagine.

Sorry but the thought of Duke getting a 1 is a joke. This team is not very good. At all.

and sdstate, unlv and the zags have less chance of getting one then nc or baylor.

That pretty much means duke or unc and osu have to win out for us to drop to the top 2 seed.
Either way we still get the east. Lock your tickets :)

They have some damn good wins. Three wins better than our best imo. Kansas, MSU, and UNC.

They got KU and MSU early. They got doors blown off by OSU. Losses to Temple, Miami and FSU. They needed miracle finishes against UNC and NC State to win. The end.

Forget about the non-BCS conferences. They are not in play for a #1 seed.

Worry about the ACC (Duke/UNC), Big 10 (OSU/MSU) and Big 12 (Missou/Kansas). That's who we will be compared to.

Of those teams, top-50 OOC RPI wins:

Duke: MSU, Kansas, Michigan, Colorado State
UNC: MSU, Wisconsin, Long Beach State, Texas

Kansas: OSU, G'town, Long Beach State
Mizzou: ND, Cal

OSU: Florida, Duke
MSU: FSU, Gonzaga

SU: Florida

and sdstate and the zags have less chance of getting one then nc baylor or unlv.

That pretty much means even if we lose three only Duke or NC can jump us and we still get the 4th one seed.

Yeah but we didn't lose OOC so who cares???
Look at our conference schedule the BE is hell every year reguardless of the rankings.

OSU is loosing to micigan right now as well.

They lose this game and we just about clinch a one with 2 losses down the stretch and a BET loss (which is very very unlikely to happen).

And you think Temple and FSU are bad? Seriously?

And what's this "getting them early"? You think the committee looks at every team, gets out their flux capacitor, and goes back in time to see how they were playing that day? I know you know better. Unless there's a MAJOR factor (injury, lack of a key player, etc...), the committee couldn't give AFF.

Top 50 OOC RPI wins is not nearly the only measure. How do the RPI 100 wins look like?

When comparing potential number 1 seeds? Yes, those losses are bad for No. 1 seeds.

MSU and KU were not nearly the teams then that they are now (I seriously doubt how good either are now though too).

Can you elaborate on how MSU is "not nearly the team" they are now? Did they immediately become better after losing their first two games, when they went on a 14 game win streak?

Duke eeking out a win at home over NC State ,losing to Temple,Miami,FSU have no bearing in Slugs equation

IMO, a great win is much more valuable than a bad loss.

The operable adage is "who did you beat and where?". Not "who did you lose to?"

not sure I disagree with him...neither Uconn nor Ville are strong this year. He also indicated that Uconn's shot to maybe make the NCAA is to beat 'Cuse...he also was clear that Uconn seems to quit in the second half against teams that build a 10 point lead or more against them...I would have to agree that a Marquette team without anyone taller than 6'7 ate Uconns lunch.

My worry is that Marquette is a very good team...and the next time we play them will be a dog fight just like last year's NCAA game.

Lol. If we finish 3-1 and lose on thurs. of BET we have 120% chance of 1 seed. Actually, I'm being stupid. 125 %

if they were to lose a couple of remaining games to UConn and Ville. He made case for both KU and Missou getting #1's even if they split their remaining regular season game and likely meeting the the Big 12 tourney. His logic is that Ohio St. could still earn a #1 seed if they beat MSU so if SU loses a couple we'd be moved down. You can tell he thinks the BE is weak and that therefore SU lacks wins over other elite teams though he didn't say it in so many words.

Well after OSU falls tonight that ship will sail.

If every thing holds as it is now, and SU wins the last four games, we will get the #1 overall seed and be in the East. Even if we lose one, we are still in the East. There is no other team deserving of the East. At this point in the game, Duke and UNC are both #2 seeds.

This is how things play out if SU and UK hold serve:

#1 Syracuse (Boston)
#1 UK (Atlanta)
#1 (St. Louis) Big 12 winner of Mizzou or KU
#1 West MSU if they win the BIG Tourney or UNC if they win the ACC.

The tournaments aren't going to matter for Syracuse and UK. They will be assigned their seedings before the tournaments start. The other two #1 seeds will be up for grabs, but Duke and UNC will need help to get one. I think both OSU and MSU would have to lose early in their tourney.

Our seeding is completely within our control right now. As long as we take care of business, we'll be in Boston and have a great shot at the FF.

EDIT: I didn't realize that OSU lost tonight. That changes things. I would say that just opened the door for either of the ACC darlings to grab that final #1 seed if MSU stumbles.

Hey, DOugie... Ohio State lost tonight.

lol at poppy. looking for any reason not to give syracuse a 1 seed. yea duke deserves it more than us. we're 26-1!!! and cherrypicking some numbers where we dont compare favorably to other top teams. brilliant.

Yep. Feels good to control our seeding for once. As long as we do our job we'll be the #1 in Boston no matter what any other team does.

Exactly. In all the garbage about Gottlieb, the refs, rankings, and everything else, all that matters is winning.

44cuse

We lose two (one in the BET) and we still clinch a one. Without a shadow of a doubt.

Heck with OSU loosing today we could lose 3 and probably still deserve the one.
With Duke and UNC fighting for the last one seed.

Flame out in the BET and forget about a one seed. Lose one of the remaining regular season games AND flame out? Hello 3 seed.

Good god please stop. Regular season is everything. If we finish at worst 29-2 we clinch a 1 seed. Regardless if we lose in the BET or not. We lost in 2010 and still got a #1 seed. Why does this thread seem to rue its ugly head again? Seriously...

This makes no sense. Read the rest of the thread.

There are 2 teams with one loss. One team with 2 losses the next closest has 4.

And Duke, UNC, Zags, UNLV and some other weak western school have 4.

UNC and Duke play in the same conference so one of them is going to get 5.

On top of that we are the only team in the country to be undefeated with their whole lineup.

Its a fact we lose two-three games we get a one seed.
and its just about a 95 percent fact if we lose three more we get a one seed (unless the commitee is nice to both unc and duke)

In other news. murry State looks pretty good.

LOL at Corduroy for being such a douchenozzle that can't see objectively.

Seriously, have you read the frickin thread? Where I said:

It's still very very likely we get the #1, even if we lose 2 more time in the reg. season, and once in the BET. But I can certainly foresee scenarios where we get the two seed with 3 losses.

For example:
Kentucky is a lock.
Missou beats KU again in reg. season and at least reaches final of Big 12
Duke beats UNC at Cameron and at least reaches final of ACC tourney
OSU/MSU run table

In other words, I think we are clearly in the driver's seat, but one would be foolish to think it's a drop dead lock.

Look punk, I don't reply to your posts for one simple reason. You sicken me and I hope to God I'm never in your presence. Such a Huge fan, who lives 3 hours away and went to his 1st dadgum game a month ago. Jesus christ.
