Grand Canyon University

I hope some day, some way a white walk-on from Grand Canyon U will end up gif fisting the Hoyas

my post is pure sarcasm. How else would one respond to someone begging for more Nanny State? If an economy could be run from the top down we would all be speaking Russian. Anyone that knows anything about the pricing of scripts knows that brutal negotiation is conducted by the PBM's like Esrx and Caremark, etc., that have tremendous buying power and the profirt motive to obtain the lowest prices consistent with the greatest supply. Any price below what the PBM's negotiate would result in decreased supply or rationing. If the pharma companies could only sell to one buyer, that one buyer would set the price. We all know how well price fixing works. Your local pharmacy would be stocked with sheet that nobody wants and if you wanted anything worthwhile your two choices would be the black market or waiting in line for days. Why would suppliers make drugs to sell at a loss? I suppose you could hire professional line waiters from the Soviet Union that might be unemployed. Line waiting was big business in Russia.

Compassion uninformed by basic economic principles is not compassionate at all. William Voegeli
The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design. Frederick Hayek

So, you're Austrian school, and I'm not. Which means we disagree on what constitutes "basic economic principles".

And, single payer is not necessarily government run health care. Under single payer, you can go to any doctor or hospital in the U.S. Doctors are not employees of the government. Hospitals are privately operated.

Any system that invests more in hair restoration drugs than antibiotics needs to be tweaked.

Says who that it needs to be tweaked. It is none of your business if people prefer hair. Single payer is gvt run health care. Would you like the gvt to buy all the automobiles? If the gvt bought all cars would you say that the auto industry is not gvt run? If you know how to read a balance sheet you would know that drugs are fairly priced. Drug companies do not make excess profits.

Single payer is not government-run healthcare. As Moynihan said--
“You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”
(Sorry about the font. That's how it came out when I copied from another site. I'm not screaming.)

I am in line with main stream economic theory. Markets are efficient. Command economies and price fixing do not work. If there is but one customer, that is called price fixing. If price is below the market clearing price supply will be curtailed. Producers would have no incentive to respond to consumer taste. Investors would have no reason to invest. There will be massive shortages, capital misallocation and black markets. It is no coincidence that every single green company that this administration invested in is now bankrupt. In order to allocate resources efficiently there has to be a feedback mechanism. Command economies have no such mechanism. Furthermore, there is a whole world of empirical data littered with failed socialist economies. Greece anyone? How about Venezuela and Cuba and all of Europe that is on the verge of bankruptcy even though they rely on us to defend them as they cannot afford to defend themselves. Given that your opinion is neither supported by theory nor empirical evidence it is funny that your moniker is that "you are not entitled to your own facts". LOL Even the Swedes that you lefties always point to is going conservative. Independent organizations have run the numbers on Bernie Sanders' policy recommendations and conclude that it would put us in a deep depression. http://taxfoundation.org/article/details-and-analysis-senator-bernie-sanders-s-tax-plan

Show me your theory that command economies, socialism, price fixing etc. are superior to open market capitalism, The Communist Manifesto? Show me your evidence, East Germany compared to West Germany, N Korea compared to S Korea?

I have no doubt that it is worthwhile to repeat myself on the following point as I am sure that you are unconvinced; if there is but one buyer, that buyer is the price setter. That is what everyone, except those on the nutty left, calls price fixing.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. John Adams
