It's not all like this but I get his point. I see it first hand with the 'club' team my own kid plays on. 2 of the 3 coaches have never even played lacrosse before they know zilch which is frustrating and the kids get no 'game' type instruction whatsoever; cutting, moving, postioning, the thinking mans part of it ...etc......but this article could apply to numerous youth sports. AAU bball comes to mind

There aren't enough decent youth coaches to go around.

We're very lucky in Central NY.
 
I didn't read the article, but we ARE lucky on CNY. A large majority of youth coaching staffs or organizations have college level players. I've yet to come across a coach that didn't play the game at least through high school. And the travel teams around here, like Orange Crush, are run by x-cuse players.

There aren't enough decent youth coaches to go around.
