I can think of a few coaches who could benefit.

Cool. I would love to see SU hire one of this guys assistants or former players and implement this at Syracuse.

If nothing else, it would be fascinating to watch. I am pretty sure it would work.

HIs 2 big numbers he wants every game - plus 10 in boards and plus 10 in turnovers. When have we last achieved that?
On an individual game basis, it's possible (maybe not for us), though a team averaging +10 in turnovers for a season is unheard of. The best this season is +8.5 and only 15 teams are +5 or better.

Only 10 teams are +10 or better in average rebounding margin this year.

We've had multiple +10 rebounding margin efforts this year. Not even close on the turnovers.

We were +12 against Colgate and +14 against BC in turnover margin last year. We got outrebounded in both games...

That would be quite the achievement to average that.

It's interesting that he was inspired by watching Rick Pitino's Providence team in '87.
The team couldn't beat the Orange because SU had probably the best point guard in the country in Sherman Douglas...a big man who could handle in DC and a terrific frontline that could clear the glass.

Let's start the road to getting back there: point guard!
(And some defense)

And DC could throw that full court pass to Rony either hand for a dunk. Also if Thompson was in the game he could get the pass and dunk. At 6-9 a double team against DC was useless.

Fascinating, thanks for sharing!

I looked up their stats and see that no one on last year's team averaged more than 25 minutes a game. And it looks like 10 guys played regularly.

I think that'd be the biggest impediment to applying this system to the D1 level. Maybe at the low major level. But the mid and high major guys wouldn't settle for topping out at 25 minutes a game.

I suspect there’s also a wider gap in ability between D1 starters and bench players than there is between DII starters and bench players.

That was a great article! I really want to watch one of their games. The system sounds brutal to play in, but fun. I've always been a huge fan of pushing tempo whenever you can.

According to cbbref, 11/26/2018 vs. Eastern Washington (9-19 turnovers, 54-43 rebounds). We won that game 66-34.
Those games were all brick fights... The height of JBs "soul crushing 2-3 defense with nobody on the roster who could score" days.

Forced 19 turnovers and plus 11 on the boards, give up only 34 points, and only win by 32.

Would love to this guy coach the Orange.

I fell in love with SU BB when Roy Danforth pressed all game, and ran as much as possible.

Crutchfield’s approach would fill JMA.

There are many of their games on YouTube. I skimmed through a few and the word I'd use to describe them is "ragged". It's certainly not artistic hoops.

Oh, and what we’re watching now is a Monet?

It’s not even a Jackson Pollock -
at least there was some rhyme or reason to that splatter.

Could you imagine anyone on this team going full tilt for 26 minutes a game? They'd all collapse after 5.
